  • Printing Black Ink, Ink drying / pooling issues. Help needed please?

Posted by Christian Davies on November 1, 2018 at 10:34 pm

I have had a problem printing black ink this evening.

The wall sticker that I was making had printed fine apart from where it had printed black ink. The black ink was laid down heavy and the ink ran.

I have not come across this before. Any ideas what has caused this?

There could be lots of reasons, but some to consider…
Have you changed the type of vinyl you are using?
Have you used the correct profile?
Do you have your heaters on, or are they high enough?

Check the make up of the black colour in your design file.

I’ve seen this before once when a client had set the Black to 100% on all CMYK channels.

Black was laid down heavy and ink started to run

I’m using the same inks and vinyl and have printed many similar designs without problem. Now that it has turned colder in the studio maybe I need to turn the heater up a little. What temperature settings do you normally use?

Spot on James. It is called Registration colour.
100% coverage on all four channels.

I’ve had the same issue on customer supplied cmyk.. all four channels at 100% “because it looked blacker on their screen”!!
    Check it’s 100% on K only.

Hi Guys…. just reading this post. I am having a similar if not the same issue. Could you tell me how I go about checking the make up/ channels of the black, like you have mentioned ?

    Regards

    Robert
