Here is the first rough proof of a van I should be doing this week, a full colour wood to brick effect with cutout effect letters, all designed in photoshop.

the print will be cut to fit the shape of the panel.

Nice looking job. Bloody convenient panels aren’t they? What sort of van is it?

Edited bit…If you look at the rear panel Lee…There’s the make and model…IDIOT.

    very nice Andrew! 😎

When I first saw this I was intrigued by the design – and now we can see it in the flesh it looks great too!

The dawing shows the print on the side having a square front edge and, of course, it looks so much ‘sweeter’ trimmed to the panel – but why didn’t you take it right to the back of the side panels too? – just askin’ 😀

With regard to the side prints – I also notice that the text doesn’t run parrallel to the brick pattern (ref. the baseline of the lower line of white text over the brick) – I guess this is to compensate for the ‘lie’ of the vehicle…but how did you calculate the difference? was the vehicle drawing good enough to design to – or did you have to work it out from the vehicle itself?

    brill job! 😎

    more please…

Thanks for the comments, now I will try and answer them………..

I was using the vehicle outline 2002+ cd, the customer measured the height of the panel (660mm) from a van already at the dealers premises, I then sized the van outlines up to size and printed the job, but since there was no van to totally measure, I thought it would be fine, BUT the print ended up a little short, I lined the panel with the front of the section, which i thought would look better than leaving the space here…..I had then planned to print a small section and add to the back, BUT once again the customer arrived early to collect and I had no time….

The brick was an image taken from a web site, and HANDS UP here….I missed the angle problem……….

But the customer was happy, and since he only gave me 3 hours from initial measurements until he collected it, wasn’t too bad…..Good old Maxx and unattended printing.

Nice Andrew, turned out better on the van than it looked on the draft.

    Nice one.

Your Maxx machine, is it a 54″?. What was the approx package cost?. i`m curious as so far the stuff i`ve seen you do looks impressive and you seem to wax lyrical about this machine.

    Cheers.

    Rod.

    Rod

The Maxx is only 36″ wide, but so far this is not a problem since you can panel like the edge.

The cost was approx 22k, with foils and installation and a copy of Omega.

Its a brill machine, the seams are excellent.

Looks sweet, when i saw your sketch at the top of the page I thought it could look a little bit “muddy” when printed, browns are a b**ch to get right. But it looks as per your sketch, nice job. I sub all my print out and there is always a worry that the colours will be slightly different than you expect. But I guess you dont have that problem ‘cos you print in-house.
