Printed Security Decals
Posted by Neill Hague on September 19, 2007 at 3:27 pmHi
A good customer of ours that makes motorhomes has asked if we can supply security decals that go on the vehicles whilst they are being transported.
The decals are about 50mm high & 200m long, they are stuck on to the edge of the door (across the gap between the door & the panel), the idea being that if a door is opened the decal would tear, to show that the door has been opened.
any suggestions for a supplier would be much appreciated
thanks
Neill

Neill,
How about using standard vinyl and cutting a vertical perforated line in the film half way across. The vinyl would then tear easily if the door was opened.Alan

Alan, the problem with doing it that way would be that it might be possible to lift one end of the decal, enter the van and then stick it back down afterwards and nobody would really be able to tell.
Don’t know who might do them but printed Avery type labels might be OK possibly laminated. -
I can only think of the security label stock from spandex, it breaks apart if it is removed, not cheap, but may do the job,
Another way maybe, try out some paper labels, as they are only a temporary measure I think with the right adhesive would do the trick…
the labels on packaging are almost impossible to remove without destruction, don’t know about sticking to paint though, give it a try?just a thought,
if its to detect unauthorised entry, during transport, why not lock on loading and give the transporter driver the keys in a sealed envelope? much simpler, and the keys are available if an emergency arises
Sorry that will do you out of work thoughPeter 😉

I would make them for the interior and stretch from nearside to offside window, you would adhere the ends to the inside of the windows, therefore making them visible and tamper proof.

quote Nigel Pugh – Grafityp:I would make them for the interior and stretch from nearside to offside window, you would adhere the ends to the inside of the windows, therefore making them visible and tamper proof.
Tamper proof maybe Nigel, but how would you get out after applying? 😀

Simple Peter, you close the door after you have pulled your arm away 😉
I know what you mean Peter, but trust me, I gave this a lot of thought last night whilst having a drink or two.

you are never really going to get a 100% solution to this problem, because the whole idea of ‘tamper evident’ labels/vinyl is that they are difficult to remove, the avery vinyl mentioned earlier is a great product for computer seals and such like, but if you ever have to clean one off, good luck to you.
I think the perforations idea is the best, if someone tries to peel one end up as said it will be obvious, especially if a permanent adhesive vinyl is used because it will distort when peeling off, also at the most, it will leave some adhesive residue that can be cleaned off. -
I have a printable chrome coloured vinyl from Spandex which when peeled off says "Void" (I think) in the adhesive, and cannot be re stuck, therefore making it blindingly obvious that entry has happened.

many thanks for the replies, I was thinking of a perforted sort of label.
I have spoken to the customer & he is going to send me a sample decal he has, he can’t remember who made them originally!!
