superwide are very good for price but unless your banner is HUGE you will find it very pixelated. I lost a job with an existing customer on this alone.
5 no. 1m x 1m coca-cola prints to be veiwed at eye level from about 6-10 feet away. the pixels were huge and my customer knocked them back. one of the reasons why we purchased a grenadier.

    oops

They are doing a banner for me 10ft x 6ft because its to big for us. I am a bit worried now.

Why are images different from that of a grenadier?

superwide and the like use one or more superwide printers. these printers are about 5 metres wide and running costs are very low per square metre.
they are ideal for billboards, building wraps and the like. they do give a great service and price but they are looking for people to be buying 20 metres square at a time, that sort of thing. hense why they charge low per square meter… all that said if your banner is veiwed from a distance and is a decent size it WILL be fine. but if folk are walking by it at eye level up close, they will see the pixels/blocks…. that make up the digital print.

im completely guessing here but lets say they print output for their machine is 150dpi the grenadeir will print upto 1440dpi (dots per inch)

ide give them a call and ask them if this is still the case or will they be using a different machine. the reason i say that is from that link you have just posted they are offering POS prints etc. if they do this in house nowadays they certainly arent using their superwide machine for this sorta stuff. that being the case, you will be fine… but best checking. 😉

Super wide are low-resolution printers… just had some back but we knew they were going to be low quality, on the website it does warn of low-quality. We also found that the image wasn’t very straight for cutting reasons. However, it is very cheap.

    Cheers All,

Have used superwide before but only for vinyl photo prints and the quality was A1, brain was obviously in neutral when it came to these banners 😳
The banners will be viewed from the 18 to 300ft range….what sort of resolution should i be looking for?

    Thanks,
    Simon

Couldnt agree more…but its a tricky job…the banner is just the start, it then requires A LOT of reworking when i get it….and every single one is different!!!
Dont you just love a challange!!!
Did the first in vinyl so i’d best get a sample…do these suppliers do sample prints???

Find out what the maximum size of print any of these suppliers do.

If they can print above 2m they probably can only run 300 – 360 dpi. Pretty low quality fo smaller banners.

Grenadier, Roland, Mimaki and Seiko are all up at 720 dpi. These bigger trade guys have more comercial equipmet scitex, zund, nur, inca which are really grand format machines so can afford the dpi drop beacuase of size and production speed.

There are a few guys on the boards that can help you with the higher dpi machines but we cant advertise that we can cause we will get edited.
