  • Printed Banners – Laminating advice needed/other options?

Posted by John Mackenzie on September 24, 2014 at 9:38 am

We print a fair few banners on our VS-640i and we use a good quality material but giving that we live in a seaside town I would like to laminate our banners.

Because of the sea-air and sandblasting effect of the wind in this area I think it would be a good idea to liquid laminate banners that we know will be going in a ‘high-risk’ area, this is where you lot come in. My only experience of laminating on this sort of thing is when we do canvas prints and for those we use clear acrylic lacquer from a spray can.

Is there an alternative as the cost of this method could be quite prohibitive?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Cheers
    John.

Banners are designed to be temporary. Extending the life probably won’t make you any more money if you add the time and cost of adding a bit of protection…or wow your customers into more purchases.
I do hundreds of banners a year and have yet to have a complaint about image fading through weathering…some have been up years…others get replaced every few weeks.

We do advise that the banners should only be used as a temporary measure but have found ourselves doing more and more larger banners that people are using as a ‘main’ sign. Because of this it would be to think that people aren’t going to see a weathered banner and think it is just to the quality of our printing.

I think I am just going to advise them that for anything more than temporary measure they would be best to lacquer. Actually I might put up some POS in our lobby and put some cans of lacquer on it!

    Thanks for your reply.
