  • Printed Banner with removable vinyl

    Hi All,

I’ve been asked to supply a 5m x 1m yellow digi printed banner for a school.

The top half of the banner has there name, crest, contact info which will be part of the print. The bottom half is to advertise there various open mornings / days, etc.

This being the case, I need to apply and remove various vinyl text about 8 times a year. I’ve spoken to 2 suppliers so far and they have suggested that the yellow bg will need to be printed rather than made from stock yellow canvas as printing onto yellow canvas will give an undesired result (basically the wrong colours as it’s yellow already!)

My concern now is, will I be able to apply and remove vinyl from the printed background without affecting the back ground colour? If I use a banner vinyl am I still risking damaging the printed surface and if I use an exhibition vinyl will it adhere enough for external use?

Bit stumped really – thanks in advance for your help.

I have stuck dates onto printed banners but on the white areas not printed areas. I used normal Hexis vinyl and they peel off again with no residue left. I do not know how the inks will react with the vinyls adhesive.

We have done loads with applying the lettering to an unprinted area but have always avoided printed areas just in case there is ever a need to clean any residue glue off so avoiding damage to print.

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

Dan, couldn’t you just print the top half on a white banner and leave the bit that needs to be changed white. Sure it would look OK if you used vinyl colours at the bottom that matched the printed colours in the top bit.

I suppose you could laminate the banner.
or even attach a panel with velcro for the changes, then it could be printed to match and probably cheaper than stripping, cleaning and reapplying vinyl?

Mike – thanks, I’ve applied and removed vinyl to and from banners but only on blank areas of canvas and not the printed areas. Might just have to go with a yellow banner and add the printed elements.

Gary – damaging the print would not be good and I’m sure there would be some adhesive to clean off 🙁

Martin – This would work perfect if the banner was white. I gave the client the option of white, blue or yellow bg’s to match there logo – they went for yellow 😮

Peter – both possible options, think I’ll investigate further.

    Thanks for all your help.
