    Hi All,

Just wondering which way would be best to do this lightbox graphic.
It will be going onto exterior opal acrylic boxes.
Would it be better to use digital vinyl which would be easier to match the colours & avoids any joints but will fade sooner, or cut vinyl which will have to be carefully applied to avoid overlaps or white gaps but will probably last longer colour wise & would I be better with standard vinyl or translucent?
The darker grey in the Avery 700 series I was looking at is fairly opaque so don’t think that would be ideal & I’m not sure what sort of colour range is available in the translucents & whether it would be possible to get the 3 different greys or even how well the red would match up. Supplier doesn’t have access to them for a few weeks due to Paperlinx takeover.

Myles when you light that up you would loose the lighter greys, if you print darker to compensate then you have too dark a print when light is off. You can do an internal and external print which helps solve the problem but you have to get the alignment spot on eg reverse print stuck on to inside of acrylic and then normal print on external tricky but can give very good results when using print on light boxes

    Hi Kev,
Yes I read an interesting article earlier suggesting a similar method where you would use clear acrylic & apply one copy of the mirror image printed on clear vinyl onto the back of the acrylic followed by another printed on translucent.
A great idea, but won’t work here as the lightboxes are opal & already fitted. We are just replacing old faded & peeling cut vinyl which is about 10+ years old.

I have in the past printed to standard print vinyl (Oracal 3164) and put it on a light box and worked fine it was transparent enough to allow light through but not enough to wash the design out that was a blue fade its been up in excess of 7 years now
