Has anyone come across an issue like this one when printing with the Gerber edges, I keep getting a chattering sound from the ribbon when printing which seems to alter the print and put lines through it. It’s mainly the spot yellow foil and doesn’t do it with the other foils. I’ve tried all heat settings and tints but it’s still doing it. Could it be static build up or a doggy refil. The refils are renown from Print 1 for the edge FX.

    Thanks,
    Alex.

What substrate are you printing on?

Standard white 5-7 year vinyl. I’ve tried it on metallic as well with the same problem.
It seems as the yellow foil is being stretched when being applied to the vinyl. When printing a simple black/ yellow warning safety sign the black is misaligned over the yellow because of this.
One thing I’ve just tried is to heat the machine up until the internal fan comes on (pre heat the internals of the machine), doing this has definitely helped it for the yellow print as it’s a lot quieter when printing and the printing is better. Room temp is around 20*c

I would say it’s the make of the foil> I had a similar problem with a green. Used a Spandex/gerber foil instead and it printed fine. Although I prefer printone foils:)

Had this years ago when using Duracoat refills. The tension in the ribbon was the problem. I can’t remember now though how we got round it. Obviously you can tighten the ribbon whilst the cart is in the edge but I think this was down to how it was fitted. The best way round it is to use originals but hey hoe most of us would rather use copies if it keeps the cost down as the originals can make a job rather expensive to produce.

    Thanks for the info,
I can get by with pre heating the FX and then it seems better. I’m still trying to learn the omega software (2.6) and even that has it’s moments. Doe’s anyone use ver 4.0 and is it worth the upgrade from 2.6?

I use version 3.0 and definitely worth the upgrade, couldn’t see the point of going to 4.0 from 3.0 though.

It might be worth an upgrade to 4.0 mainly due to the bespoke small nature and detail of the decals i print thermally. I know 4.0 supports higher resolution in the software with the firmware update but as it is at the moment it just can’t handle the small stuff i do on the Roland PC-600 for quality or size.
I will need to investigate a little more and send off for some samples of my work that’s done in 4.0 to see if it’s possible with the higher resolution option.
I know I’m drifting off my original question….. oops sorry!

Thanks for the info upto now.

    Alex.
