Wondering if any one has a view or experience on the following machines as I am considering a purchase.

First one is Spandex Jetster XL – am told this is a Mutoh machine. any comments welcome. reliability cost of ownership quality etc

Second is Roland SC545 ex – similar sort of question and members views on this machine.

Also there seems to be two schools of thought – regarding Print and cut machines and having two separate machines to do the job. Each one of the selling companies contradicts the other so admit to being a tad confused on this. Does anyone have any recommendations based on their experience.

    Thanking you in advance

I suppose it all depends on the space you have available amongst other things . I went for the cadet as im short on space. Both options you will have to reload prints, whether it be into the seperate cutter, or back into the printer.

I found exactly the same problem as you chris. Both sets of “salesmen” claimed there system was “superior in comparison” and all that cr@p!!!

But to be honest theyre just trying to make a sale, so as far as im concerned these type of people will say ANYTHING just to get that sale.

Dont be swayed. Find out which option is best for YOU and nobody else. Buying a machine like these is not somthing you will do often, so do it right with no regrets. Sorry if im stating the obvious.

Arent both these machines eco-solvent. If so you’ll have to buy a laminator too, more space? Sorry to babble on chris. Just me tuppence

having a roland sc540 ex now on the max inks i just can not fault it really but all depends on how you are going to use it if its going to be used all day every day then a full solvent (cheaper bulk inks) might be a option. else the latest roland max inks are more than adequate and are very easy to care for the machine mine is 3 years old and runs beautifully but the print and cut bit is so versatile it beats having to have two machines for general sign use you are welcome to pop down to Plymouth to have a look if you like

In the half year that I’ve had my Cadet I’d say that it depends on what your going to do. Never and easy answer is there 🙂

If your going to do short runs of stickers then the all in one machine will be faster as you don’t have to re load the media, if your doing long runs though the separate machines are better as the cutter can be working while the printer is printing, the cutter will usually be faster than the printer as well.

If you laminating then there is no difference as you have to re load the media whatever.

As to accuracy of cut, this can depend but generally the Cadet is very good as long as you’ve done an environmental check first.

Inks, not sure now with the Max inks as they seem to be cheaper than the solvent inks (not bulk though) and I’m led to believe they are very durable as well, again if your laminating then I see no advantage with the solvent inks.

Just to dispel a myth, the solvent inks can be completely removed from the vinyl if you use the cleaning fluid for the heads, they don’t etch deeply into the surface and that’s on Uniforms own digital vinyl with their Actisol solvent inks.
The solvents do defiantly soften the vinyl, when you have a lot of ink on the vinyl it becomes VERY soft and stretchy.

Hope that’s some help, nothing like leaving a reader confused 😀

    Hi Chris

we bought a Jetster XL last year and run it with Mistral RIP software. we have found it to be a very good machine. At the moment we have only printed images on to vinyl and a couple of banners. It is our first digital printer, the print quality is superb (if the artwork is good) and the printer is straight forward to use. We find that this machine is good for us because of the fact we can just turn it on start printing, then leave it turned off until needed again.

Cant really help on ink usage as I haven’t yet recorded the amount of material printed.

    hope this helps!

I do suggest to most that SignUK is just round the corner.. best time to make a printer buying decision as you can get to see them.
Most of us will be there on Wednesday
