Is it possible to print and cut directly from coreldraw to the gerber edge FX and then to the plotter for cutting, or is the only option to export the eps file and put it through the omega software?

I’m all a bit new to the EGDE FX stuff so i really need as much info possible to get me started.

As far as I’m aware you cannot output to the fx directly from Coreldraw, so your only option is to import into Omega and print from there (this is precisely what I do as well).
This will enable you to use different halftone settings, as well as all the various overlap/overprint settings, not forgetting all the different material firing settings as well.

    Thanks for your reply,
I thought that would be the case but wanted to check as I’ve a lot of work coming up and wanted to know as much as possible before I jumped in and removed my old thermal print setup.

    Chris,
i will be keeping the 600 for now, I’m just learning the FX but i think the biggest thing to try and get my head around is Omega software. I’ve lost some hair already trying to print graphtec type 2 reg marks instead of the std Gerber ones.
Still haven’t managed to find where to change the dam thing??

    Alex,

Create a job, send to gspplot for outputting, once there press F11 or go to the menu bar and choose ‘setup’ then ‘print otions’.
Once there click on ‘targets’ and this is where you can choose the print targets.
Make sure you click on ‘preference’ after you’ve chosen the type you require.

    That’s it!

    Regards,
    George

    Thanks George,
I found it at last!! The software is totally different to what I’m used to but i will get there. I will probably just use the GSX15 plotter with gerber marks as i can’t get it to pick up reg marks well on the graphtec.

Do you know of any usb to serial leads that are known to work with the GSX plotter as there are loads out there but i wouldn’t mind getting one that will work rather than trial & error??

    Cheers,
    Alex.

Not many will work (been there done that, I must have at least 3 that don’t work), the only one I know will work is "cables unlimited usb-2920", you will have to get it via amazon.com as there are none available in the uk.
Have you tried contacting Spandex, I’m not 100% sure but they should have a compatible cable available.

    George,
I’ll contact Spandex tomorrow to see what they say and how much a cable costs from them.
    Cheers,
    Alex.

Another thing, make sure you are using the gerber cable that came with the plotter, not a normal printer cable, as they are different and a normal cable plugged into the usb to serial adapter will not work.

I have the Gerber serial cable supplied so it’s just the case of getting the adaptor to switch it to USB
