Brian, just to be clear so people know. Are we talking about vinyl here or traditional type sign writing ?

Just remember that there is probably a big difference between the price of the two, there aren’t a lot of traditional sign writers about these days so if the club want the names painted it will be more difficult for them to get a cheap price.

I’m guessing from Derek’s reply that he does them in vinyl

I’ve done a few in vinyl, probably to cheaply so I won’t mention pricing here. Plus I have had to pass others on to other people when the customer wanted them done by hand which I can’t do.

Did a few with standard gold vinyl and a couple with signgold which is a more expensive way to do it but the difference in finish is chalk and cheese.

How you going to do them in vinyl ??? Thought you needed a computer for that 😉

    Hi,
£60-80 per name doesn’t sound outrageous.
A visit to site and a single name, about £160? Central London maybe £220? Depends where you’re located and if there’s a few writers in your area.
How much do you charge per hour for signwriting?
I agree, it’s a tricky call and a lot of clients will grumble but they can get them done in vinyl and they’ll look horrible. Price of gold has trebled in the last 3 years, lots of signwriters are retired or gone to the great sign shop in the sky, there’s a supply and demand consideration here. Interesting to see anyone else’s take on this.

i charge around £20.00 for one or two names plus year. I see it as a good will thing
and dont really see it as a job.

    I’m with Graze.
(we don’t have many honours boards around here, bear that in mind)
I would only want to do something like this by hand, not to sound like a snob but I think it looks tacky in vinyl.
Brian, since you do know how to hand-letter, offer them that option as well.
    Love….Jill

Hi Brian, you can persuade them not to go down the vinyl route by saying these boards have a prestige about them. They look awful and so impersonal in vinyl. Hand lettered in my opinion is the only way to go.
I could get 60 – 80 (sorry can’t find pound sign on this cr@ppy PC) for a single name here but then if there’s a bunch of names and you can do it at your place I’d probably be looking at 12 – 15 per name depending on letter style.

But then again it’s down to locality etc.
