The pricing model of cost per sq ft in terms of media and ribbons is actually unuseable
In reality , charge what the market can bear which depends on competiton etc .
To work out true cost per sq are , you actually have to ake the full costs associated with printing and cutting the decal on a yearly basis IE amortize the machine , salary , operator , wasteage , cutting cost , phones , portion of rent etc and divide by 200 to get a daily cost
Estimate the amoutn of usage a day , like lets say 10 sq ft and divide that into the daily cost and add the material ribbon cost to get a true cost.
You might be shocked!!!!!!!!!!!
Then add your margin. BUT your margin has to vary , lets say you charge gbp 5 for a 8×10 print , which works out at 80 sq inches and thus about 7 pence per sq inch , you CANNOT charge 6 pence for a 1″ square decal , co that is WAY too steep.
So you have to work out a sliding scale , the smaller the decal the higher the margin. Obviously you also need a quantity price break , like 1-50, 50-250 , 250+ etc (easy to program into a spreadsheet)
Our roland PC’s cost us a ton more to run than your edge and we basically start at about R2.50 for a 1″ diameter circular decal , cmy and no spot metallic – R12 to the pound so its about 20 pence and we wont do less than 50 or so , On my Soljet , the cost of that sticker comes down to 75c ( about 6 pence) but the minimum qty rises to 500 and the sticker , cos its not thermally printed , albeit way better resolution than a edge or PC can deliver, is not as permanent or damage proof and takes a day to “cure”
The guys around here in South africa charge about R900 a sq meter for edge stuff , thats about GBP72 per sq meter or 7.2 per sq ft , thus here a 1″ diameter decal is about 5 pence on a qty of 1000 or so
