• Price of fuel

Posted by Shane Drew on April 15, 2005 at 11:37 am

Hi everyone, I know this is a strange request, but I am doing an article in my latest newsletter about the price of fuel and its relationship to running a small business.

Can you guys and girls tell me what the price per litre (or Gallon) of fuel is at, say, the local Shell station, for unleaded? Non discounted would be preferred.

I need the price, ltr or gal, and the town/country would be great.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Shane

Lancashire UK, usually about 83p a litre for unleaded, although it does vary from station to station. Not sure if there is a Shell station around these parts though 😕

Kent – 90.9 pence per litre of diesel and 86.9 pence per litre of unleaded – both prices seem to be fairly consistent across most petrol stations

Dunno if we have a Shell…it’ up to about $2.29 a gallon here tho dammit.
Seems like the price of everything else has followed suit.

Average price here in San Diego, California is $2.54 (a gallon) at last check. At Shell though it is probably more like $2.64, they are always more than average.

Nth Lincolnshire diesel 86 p per litre (Tesco). 20 miles away in Doncaster same Supermarket Tesco 83.5p per litre & we are nearer the oil refinery at Immingham.
My wife complained to Tesco last year & got a nicely wordered letter which, reading between the lines meant that there is not much competition in our town so they can price it as they like.

Marek, quite agree mate, been to USA 5 times so far vehicles bigger & fuel a lot cheaper, last time we went your fuel only a quarter of our prices.

It is a lot cheaper, but EVERYONE here complains about it. We are far below the world average. I always tell people how much it is in Wales. The gas seems to be on the news about every other week.

Marek, did notice one thing about the American people though, the 1st year went over the pond, the price of gas was “x” amount, 2nd year price gone up & all locals we met were complaining, 3rd year price had gone DOWN to just below the 1st year.
Only happened here once so far, everyone complaining & marching & holding up lorries delivering fuel but still keeps going up in price.

    Have a nice day,

Thanks John, and everyone for replying. I am using a conversion program that converts everything to litres for me. They give the choice of US and UK Gallons.

Interesting prices quoted so far. We pay $1.05 a litre unleaded here, and $1.15 for diesel. I remember when diesel used to be cheaper, but the petrol stations tell us here it is because you lot in Europe are using more than your share!! 😛

Hi Shane, I was taught to convert imperial gallons to litres was to divide by 4point 6, sorry but 4.6 doesn’t look right. hope that helps & not confuses you.

PS our government conned us all years ago by saying that “if you buy a diesel car it does more mpg & the fuel is cheaper than petrol” so a lot of us did & what happened next, they put the price up to more than petrol!

One number I cannot get out of my mind is 4.54609. How sad is that? My excuse is that I was involved in petrol retailing at the time of metrication and had to do the conversion many times a day.

I too can remember the 4s 11d gallon, but petrol was more expensive then than it is today. I have a photo from 1959 showing some garage staff standing around a petrol pump displaying that price and the foreman was then on £10 per week or, put another way, he could buy forty gallons with a weeks wages. I don’t know what average wage is today but I bet someone in the same job would be able to buy something more like seventy gallons with the reward from a weeks labour.

    Hi Shane

I filled up the van the other day with Esso Diesel. it was 89.9p per litre ( Aylesbury)

And the car was cheeper with unleaded petrol at 85.9 in buckingham
    20 miles form aylesbury r

i thought Diesel was Supposed to be CHEAPER? the government promoted Diesel as a cheap fuel, as soon as there are a lot of diesel vehicles on the road, hey presto it costs more.

So is the same going to happen to LPG?
cheap as chips now but in the future?
