Just had a look through my Price It Right Guide as I have a customer looking to have either window Vinyl, or a full colour foam board sign made.

    According to them:

    47 250mm letters @ £2.61 = 122.67 +vat

However a 5x2ft full colour 5mm foam board sign £90.07+vat

Obviously cutting and weeding the cut vinyl takes time and app tape add’s costs.

Does the £90.00 include basic artwork IE: No library images, no logo’s to be redrawn?

Or am I just too cheap supplying a 10sq ft full colour sign @

    Foam Board = 19.30
    Vinyl = 28.00
    47.30 + Vat + Design + Images and delivery.

what thickness is your foam board?

is it a non-brand foamex or branded "Foamex" or the like…

    what width is your machine?

are the prints to be laminated?

    Will be 5mm foamlite

Un laminated and the machine is 64" printing onto 1600mm media.

ide be around the £85-£90 mark mate…
but you also need to work out how much time your going to spend on designing it if you have a complicated design or if its just a bog standard sign.
foamex signs are deemed as cheap though and depends on the type of customer you have here. difficult to advise properly doing this blind.

I’ll go for around the 80 mark, and then charge a for 2-3 hours design time.

Same with the window vinyl, add an hour or two on for designing the thing… even though it’s only text.

I must be charing way to little for my raw materials. I add 200 -300% on my raw material costs then about £30 sqm for vinyl!

theres a thin line when pricing mate. sometimes you have to have some loss leaders to get the business, whilst other times, the customer will be willing to, or expecting to pay to get what they want.

my rule of thumb on digital printed vinyl unlaminated has always been £50 a square metre. thats been our price for about 8 years now. yes for multiples and full width of machine we compromise and give discounts but you need a bench mark. so £50 is where i start.

pricing is never easy, so many variables to take into account. i do feel your pain on this.
i openly push hard on pricing and the like on UKSB, not because ihave it right or know the answers to pricing. i just think that the more things are discussed, the more realistic costs incurred in production are brought to everyones attention. may make people start to think, "hey, i never thought about that" and "yeh tehy are right, i need to up my game a bit" etc etc the more we will all begin making some better money. was going to say "real" money, but thats wishful thinking. :lol1:

    Cheers Rob.

You and many others on these boards have really helped me out.

I have submitted two quotes, 1 for cut vinyl, 1 for a printed board. There’s £43 difference between them, but the difference in the two products is something else.

I would certainly spend the £43 more and get a digital display on this occasion.

I even quoted for design time on both so not loosing out there either :lol1:

This month has seen me write price lists for my banners, canvas prints, and t-shirts and even a design brief!

I have increased my banner prices, and am going to be looking at my material prices a little more. I will be charging design time too, without fear of getting it all wrong or doing it all for free!

    Thanks for your help Rob.

Priceitrightguide.com or something along those lines.

Yes, for me its been a great help. Its really good to give you an idea how far off the average you are. Its really helped when people want vinyl lettering as it tells me how tall and how much they are each.

I need to look at mine a little more if anything to double check my prices.

    Think it costs about £24.
