• price it guide

while at the sign show on tuesday i picked up a leaflet for the new sign price guide.

it will help guide you as to what price you should be quoting for jobs.

i think it will be a good idea as at the moment so many prices are sooo far apart between companies that its hard to guess correctly to get a job …….yes i did say guess :lol1:

what do you all think about this?

    good idea?

it was a small stand but the guide will be free to all people in the trade

i assume the cost will be covered by adverts within the guide itself

Isn’t that part of victory design, I remember them trying to sell something like that at Printwear and promotions a few months ago, it was just a excel spreadsheet

    Could be wrong though

I signed up for a copy of that as well. It is always a handy guide to giving a price when on site…rather than giving a ballpark figure…sometimes customers are keen to sort extra work out when you arrange to meet.

saw the stand at the show and regstered for a free copy… My first thought was how do they make money? Second thought was who will get it?

If joe public gets hold of it it could cause a few problems… Similar to the Glasses Guide for cars… joe public gets an old copy off his mate and then goes round thinking they are experts and tell you your car is over priced!!!

they argued that if a guy has bought a cutter and is under charging he will get a copy of this and put his prices up!!1 not convinced my self..

    Cheers

That’s a fair point Ian. I think having something like that may be useful for purposes of seeing if you’re in the right ballpark if you’re unsure, but I wouldn’t want to follow it to rule.
Besides everyone’s circumstances are different and what formula suits one company may not suit another.

That’s what I’ve been waiting for a long time, the guy said it’s due out in August.

i had a chat with the guy on this stand thursday,, the way they are going to fund it is by advertising suppliers to the sign industry..

personally think its a great idea…

SignCraft magazine puts out a pricing guide once a year. It’s U.S. prices though, so may not be helpful to many in the U.K.
It’s good to have an idea of what to price something though.

Im with Ian on this one, but like you guys have said it needs to be kept away from the general public, as this could be the key to close small if not large companys, because it is not hard to buy a cutter and software and start your own little on the side job !
    sorry rant over 😀

I wonder how this guide would compare to some of the softwares out there like Estimate?

I haven’t used it myself but was looking into something when I first started out. But there are so many variables and materials these days to use…it would be very difficult for any sign software or book to be spot on.
