  • Price advice on A2 signs chain hung

Posted by Ian Pople on November 23, 2011 at 7:33 pm

    Hello all,

Not been on for a while.

Please could I have advice on the substrate to use for A2 signs hung on chains. Customer has asked that they don’t swing much.

Very simple text an example is D2 WORK-IN-PROGRESS. What would you charge per sign fitted.

    Thanks for the advice.

if its on chains alupanel the overall weight should stop it swinging

foam board will warp at that size unless braced

price depends on how many and what equipment needed
    scaffold/ ladders etc

    Hi,

    Thanks for the reply.

It looks as if I will need a lift, and the customer wants 6 on chains and 4 fixed to walls. Just don’t know how to price it.
    Thanks

Ian mate, tell your customer your a sign maker you do not control the wind!
how the hell can someone request you make signs and hang by chanin, but then said, oh and i dont want them to swing much! 🙄

anyway mate, as has been said. composite, foamex or Correx.
if they have to hang from scaffold then "large" tie-its will do the job no problem.

    Correx
    drill holes to allow
    Large Tie-its
text on face £30 each +vat

ajust costs for heavy grade materials like composite etc
5mm correx will cost about £7 an 8×4 sheet
    large tie-its £5 for about 100
    use vinyl off cuts.

it comes down to what they want to pay and these types of things are norrnally done cheap. that said, we often do a large scaffold companies and roofers signs in banners and they tie them on in whatever fashion.

im basing this on temp advert signage.

    Thanks for the reply Rob.

I am going to quoted £44. Neil gave me a hand with the Price as well thanks every one. Material 1 sheet TARGET ACM 3050×1500 chopped into 15. The price just seemed high to me when they want 10, plus the cost of the lift, chain and fitting on top.

The signs are for internal in a warehouse the company are getting ISO next month.

Looks like I’m going to have to invest in Clarity the payed one. I have the free version but need help pricing.

    Thanks all.

I still think pricing is the hardest part of the job.

I use sage instant accounts for my accounts.

I have set a product for each material and media with a cost per square meter and square foot. Then once I have measured up, input the area for each material, estimate time to design complete, and it gives me a price – for public sales I remove all the items, and just put it as 1 ie: design supply and install of signage on composite, 2 col layout. And the price.
There’s probably easier ways to do it but it works for me.

I struggle with vehicle livery… I have some guide prices and samples but often seem very expensive, but when I do a van I remember just how much work’s involved with weeding and applying, let along design time!

thing is Ian, while they may expect a discount for ten, it is often the way that making ten will simply take 10x as long and 10x the materials with no bulk savings to yourself, thus no point offering a discount.

if they sold sandwiches (for eg) I bet they wouldn’t be looking to give you 20% off for buying 10!!
