  • Press power button to clean, what does it mean?

Posted by Stephen Morriss on February 12, 2014 at 10:12 pm

Hope your all ok and the weather hasn’t caused you too many problems, I’ve got a slightly weather related problem in that I tried to shut down my printer because of the weather.

I pressed and held the secondary power button for a few seconds (too long I think) to turn secondary power off. (secondary power was already on) and then it said on the screen something like "press power button to clean".
I pressed it and then it shows 1_2_3_4_ flashing, pressed power button again screen says processing and then stays like that, doing nothing.

Turn main power off and plug back in and again press power to clean with the same result.

SP540V printer running with no problems. Eco sol max inks and latest firmware.

What have I done by pressing the power button too long? or has an error come up at just this time.
Is there a way to clear this, there were no problems before.

For now I’ve left it unplugged and I’ll see in the morning when the weathers calmed down.

    Thanks
    Steve

This has happened to me a long time ago when I had a sp540v I had to reset the inks and choose eco max for the service menu. Once I did that it solved the problem. It had something with reverting it back to a sp540 without the v for versaworks. If you reset this in pretty certain if it’s the same problem I had it will solve your problem

As in pull the inks out and put them back in, hence the 1_2_3_4_?
Bugger, that’s a bit of ink wasted, hope it’s that simple though.

No as in go into service manual mode and scroll to ink type and re select eco max

Do you know how to go into service menu?

this may help, seems to have been a similar problem. The sub key only works in combination with certain other keys to carry out operations as far as i know.

I can’t email you a service manual in the morning if you have not got one.
What i had to do was remind the printer what type of ink it uses in the service manual it’s weird but it worked for me.

Maybe you wake up in morning and it will suddenly work. These things can happen.

Think Kevin maybe onto something because I change my inks at the same time so maybe it was this that solved my problem. I went from
Colorific back to Roland inks at the time because purebred was terrible with colorific. When the error came on I tool the opportunity etc

Good luck mate i would try this first not my suggestion as it’s quicker.

Michael, no I’ve never managed to get into service mode.

Kevin, thanks but I think that’s about the chips needing a clean, I’ll try it anyway as I do have problems sometimes.

    Good morning campers.

Ok maybe not that good a morning but I seem to have got the printer going again and it may have been as simple as the cartridges not being recognised due to the chip contacts.

I pulled all the cartridges out and back in again this morning and the printer just started it’s normal cleaning cycle.
Versaworks can see the printer and it’s showing the same amount of inks and the correct type as yesterday so hopefully it’s all good.

Thanks to both Kevin and Michael for your replies and ideas.

Michael I’ll pm you my email address and you can send me that manual anyway please.
