  • Polarsign Laminator – anyone using one?

Posted by Dan Piddington on August 12, 2013 at 9:56 am

    Morning all,

Just about to purchase a laminator to partner our jv33-130 solvent. Torn
between the easymount sign and the polarsign hot.

I know a few of you have the easymount which sounds like a good workhorse, but
anyone running the polarsign? how are you finding it?

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Dan

    Hi dan

We’ve had a polar sign 1600 for the past 4-5 years, it’s a good solid reliable laminator.

Pros are that it’s well built, solid, has a single handle to adjust the top roller.

Cons are that it won’t actually do 64" wide lamination as the cores that go in to the vinyl stick out wider than the roll but the bed of the machine will take a 1500 wide sheet so you can use it for applying graphics to boards that wide.

On our machine we had a problem with the drive motor slipping on its fixings causing the drive chain to go slack, tighten the bolts up and it’s fine. We use our machine daily and it’s fine. Have laminated over 200 meters of vinyl in half a day when the need has arisen!

As usual with laminators check the rollers for any damage and if possible see it laminating something so you can check its alright. Signmaster systems originally supplied ours so I’m sure if you needed anything they could help.

If there’s anything else you need to know just ask.

    Regards
    Alex

    Hi Alex,

Thanks for your thoughts and experience with the polarsign.

I took the plunge and went for the easymount 1400SH in the end from
Signmaster 🙂 being delivered next week so can’t wait to start using it.

I fear there will be a few wasted prints though while I’m getting to grips
    with it!

    Thanks again

I got the 1600sh about 4 weeks ago and I’m just starting to get past the 50/50 mark, but then its been pretty quiet last couple weeks, I wish you better luck than I had.

Couple of good demo’s on youtube regarding the different ways it can be loaded that were quite helpful if you have not had one before.
