Pointy elipse
Posted by Paul Rollason on July 20, 2005 at 9:34 amHi all
I have noticed that whenever I cut an elipse, the end tend to come to a slight point instead of a smooth curve.
Is this a problem with my design software (corel 11), cutting pluggin (winplot) or my cutter (summa d60)
any ideas?

Probably a combination of all 3. Corel is not great with interpolation of circles/elipses , the plotter might have a slight error on a feed motor , the grit rollers could be dirty , a rubber rollar could have developed a flat spot , the software might not interpret the the elipse as true arcs but more as micro stepping straight lines and so forth. Check to see that the offset you have set on the plotter matches the balde , check the blade holder for play. Very difficult to diagnose exactly what it could be.

Paul, do you convert the shape to curves before you plot?
I had a similar problem on v12, but converting to curves fixed it

Cheers Rodney
The plotter is quite new so I don’t think it is worn parts etc also it cuts everything else OK, just elipses it has a slight problem with.
I will have a word with our supplier to see if he has heard of anything similar, I wanted to ask here first as the answers I recieve benifit more people.

All the graphic was converted to curves before cutting and I have just had a look at the node at the apex of the curve ans it is a smooth node so I don’t know what it is.
I cuts circles and all other shapes perfectly
My suspect is winplot, it does have some strange foibles sometimes
I may try another pluggin such as cocut or if anyone has any other sugestion

Signlab is a good plug in Lol get an older version if you are just cutting from it does a brilliant job of complex work with ease it does
