• Plugin on X4

    Hi.

A little while ago I got interested in cutting direct from Corel, doing some research got me to Sign Tools and CoCo Cut as two possible contenders.

Quite simply the expense of another ‘full grown’ package license is not in play right now as I want to utilise our pc60 as a spare cutter, so I thought that this route may be a good middle ground.

What experiences have you people had with these Corel plugins? Are they as good as they suggest? Does one win over the other?

Sign Tools appears to support all 3 of our cutters – so thats quite a good start, yet to check CoCo. Can anyone pass on an experience perhaps?

    Cheers in advance!

I looked briefly at the 2 you mention and it seemed at that time that CoCut was in a couple of versions but the ‘professional’ version offered some very advanced tools only found in some bespoke sign software, downside is that it needed a dongle, was more expensive than Signtools or others and also potentially needed upgrading when Corel Draw was ugraded. Signtools on the other hand had extra tools but many were just automating what Corel could do any way. It was well priced. I came to the conclusion that if I were looking for vinyl cutting combination with all the tools I were likely to need I would go for CoCut but if I simply wanted to cut from Corel as all work was to be done in Corel I would go for something cheaper. Do a search for X cut that may serve your purpose.
That was a year or so ago so specs. of both programmes may have changed.

Well CoCut when I used it about 3 years ago on Trial was very good software, but never used it in production. (It is more of an Addon then a pluggin and compiled correctly and requires a dongle)

SignTools, not used it but I beleive it to be a set of tools for Corel.

With regards Corel, I am actually a programmer and have written my own tools, but the difference between each version of CorelDraw does require some minor tweaking with my software, so sometimes when you got ur expensive plotter and a new corel draw comes out, you often have to download a new version of the software to work with it.
For instance, from Corel X3 to Corel X4, they screwed up on of the commands for selecting grahpics from programming code, this caused quite a few programmers many hours of changing their code to work around it, however in SP2 of CorelX4 this was fixed.

    Anyway, enough rabbit.
