Speaking to a guy I know who has a silver bullet plotter which uses SCAL (sure cuts a lot) software neither of which I had heard of before.
He is having a problem importing certain file types into the software DXF files in particular so does anyone know if these plotters will run with any other software other than this SCAL please.

Can’t say I’ve heard of it either Martin. A quick google turns this up:
    http://www.craftedge.com/products/products_scal.html
Is this the same product? Looking at the feature list it doesn’t mention importing DXF, although it may still do it.

Has he tried cutting something simple like a circle or rectangle, or even TT fonts text?

Neil, it probably is the same software but don’t know for sure, his machine cuts directly from it. He doesn’t have a problem cutting anything that has been produced with the software it’s just that he has a lot of DXF files & would like to be able to import them into the cutting software.
I did tell him to export them as an EPS or something else from the cad package & see if that would import better but I’m not sure if he still has the cad software to do that.

I’d imagine objects created within the software are defined in native code so will output properly. Not entirely sure but I would think the software will attempt to convert the (imported) DXF definitions to it’s own native format prior to output, so perhaps that’s the basis of the problem. As I say I’m not entirely sure if that will be the case but probably worth converting one DXF to EPS to see how it goes.

    Martin,

SCAl….Sure Cuts a Lot is used by crafters to cut paper, card etc. for craftmaking……..my 75 year old mum uses it.

It was subject to a court case in the US as it allowed people to output direct to a Cricket cutter without using their expensive font and clipart cartridges…..

There are lots of craft forums where it is discussed at length….I will try and find out their names for you.

Thanks John, the software came bundled with the plotter & it seems they have had very little help from the supplier hence me asking here.
I believe one of the reasons for buying it was his wife does scrap booking, they are in there 70’s as well lol.
