    Good day everyone,

Please recommend brushed gold for outside use.

I used Metamark but turned silver in few weeks. (Client signed a waiver – i told them this is indoor material)

But I need to find brushed gold with better outdoor performance.

I think your best option is to use a vehicle wrap brushed metal. by that, i mean durability because they tend to have 3-5 year warranties on their films, dependant on the series, brand etc.

These are just 3M and Avery samples but i am sure the likes of Hexis and others will offer brushed alternatives.

I agree with Rob on this. A cast brushed wrap for a car has to be the ultimate test on a vinyls life.

I am not sure if it’s a chrome metalised finish you are looking for or just the brushed effect?
But you can print “stock images” from the likes of Adobe Stock. you basically duplicate the effect to the area/size you required, laminate it and then cut your text, graphic or whatever from that.
I have seen this done with lots of things, such as Carbon fibre and other textures and effects.
unless you are doing large solid sections, you will get away with small tiles as long as they cover a letter area. but if you need larger areas, search for “seamless image tiles” because they will let you duplicate and sit next to each other to create a larger image without the grain or effect increasing in size. hope that makes sense. 🤔

    Hi Pane,

If it is a mirror brushed your after, Aslan produce a 2 year and a 5 year. From memory Aslan Cal30 is the 5 year, the range are polyesters with a bubble free adhesive. Hope this helps

Pane this is where you persuade the client to go for gold leaf! It is sooo much nicer than vinyl, Comes in a book of 25 leaves, its 24 carat gold, it lasts forever outside, and its not that hard to do.

I do agree with you that Goldleaf is hard to beat, Simon. But I would imagine it to be a time-consuming installation. even though i know you personally and some other traditional signmakers could knock it out in your sleep. Furthermore, I would put Goldleif into a specialist category and charge a premium for it. I see more and more companies and individuals paying good money to get a genuine article. I think the more we skate towards mega-fast huge printers with little skill behind producing work, people want and will pay for authenticity!

I have tried to apply goldleaf to a mirror frame. it is not easy. i think there is definitely a knack to doing it, Simon. 😳🤣

might be the way you are holding it Pane, but it doesn’t look the best brushed metal i have seen. it looks like it has been printed?

3M 1080-BR241 Brushed Gold was a solution for this job.

No other option was possible as client insisted on brushed gold look.

    Thank you.

3M & Avery both do wrap films like Rob mentioned, though small text is an absolute sh*t to lift off with paper app, you need some seriously high tack transfer paper.
