are you asking for someone to ‘vectorise’ these internet page logos into a vector format for corel so you can cut?

they are from the owners of the both sites (both owned by the same customer) he wants some stickers for his members. and yes i need to have them so i can cut from them.

is that a problem? or did i miss something? only your answer seems a little on the side of me doing or asking something wrong mat e?

Ask the site owner for higher resolution images (he must have something better) as regenerating / vectorising from web page images is a pain in the proverbial and takes about 10 times longer than if you can get a ‘proper’ image (a couple of hundred kb+) then it would be a doddle as most software packages can vectorise automatically to a very high standard.

thanks for the explanation, i was a little lost.

he did send me the eps file he had from his previous supplier, but it simply will not open in my corel, it apprears as if it is importing fine, but just appears a blank page.

i can get a high res pic, thats not a problem, but i did not realize it was needed sorry.

    thanks again

Martin, post the files up and I’ll see if they open in Illustrator.

It’s a short term solution though because you really have got to learn to digitise stuff like that.

thank you john, your right i really need to learn a lot of stuff, i have only been doing this a very very short time, and its so frustrating for me alone, to be getting stuck on what i think will be an easy job.

here is one of the files he sent, as the other one is on my laptop.

    thank you

    martin

    John,

    That works PERFECT
    thank you SO much.

any idea, why it would not open for me? am I doing it wrong ? as it obviously opened for you.

i really am sorry to be such a pain as a newbiee, its these silly things that really hit me and stop me in my tracks.

i seem to get a few jobs done that when i take them on i think they maybe problematic, and they go fine, then the little jobs i think will be easy and quick, really show me how little i am able to do

Nothing clever Martin. It opened in Illustrator, so i just saved it down as an Illustrator version 3 file, which seems the be the version that has the most compatibility with Corel.

ok, i didn’t mean to confuse you martin… i mearly wanted to try and figure out where to start.

As you said you was fairly fresh, I just explain, EPS file format is short for Encapsulated Post script, Adobe Illustrator design software is developed around this format and most of the printing industry (e.g. litho) is run on postscript. It is basically a page definition file format which is a file instruction and layout language that was developed mainly by Adobe. The format has improved over the years and Illustrator keeps coming out with new versions (currently CS3) although for the sign industry early illustrator formats are perfectly fine for us all. The newest Postscript format is called PDF, which you have no doubt seen which is a book format which Adobe acrobat reader opens up to, this is infact a cut down version of postscript, the industry has moved to this format as it is easier.

For sign making, transporting files is easier with the early AI/EPS format. Corel Draw however has also been one of the most popular design applications on the PC, due to its cost of ownership over the years, it is a brilliant program and it ‘interprets’ and creates the EPS/AI format, it is however native to its own drawing format (CDR).

Hope that techy speak makes some sense. GIF/JPEG are mainly used for bitmapped internet images and AI/EPS is for vector. PDF is use mainly for transporting finished artwork or books.
