The PS3 font was actually taken from the Spider-man font.

    A bit of useless information:

We (and that includes a large number of you guys) tend to spend a lot of time talking about game development and game design. We also talk about console design (is it pretty? is it dishwasher safe?). But there are those who look at the little things: "The switch is too big" or "The thing has too much green" or "Why is Sony using the ‘Spiderman’ font on the PS3?"

What is the true story behind Sony’s use of the "Spiderman" font? Is Sony trying to glom on to the success of the movie? Is this just a marketing strategy? Or maybe their designers just really liked "Spiderman"? Whatever Sony’s reasons for choosing that font, not everybody understands it. I keep thinking: "Why didn’t Sony hire me to take the PS2 logo and ‘evolve’ it into a silvery logo for their PS3?" I would have done it for free!
