  • Photoshop PSD file to Vector File – How?

Posted by John Cooper on October 17, 2009 at 12:00 pm

    Hi guys

A friend of mine created a logo and sent it to me in a Photoshop PSD file format – attached (No it’s not, can’t attach a .psd file)

How can this file be converted into a vector file without having to trace it manually?

    Cheers

    John

John, do you have illustrator, if so just drop in and trace using live trace, you can do the same thing in omega as well.
    Hope all is well.

Hi Jason and thanks for the reply.

I thought Photoshop would have a simple way of exporting a layered .psd file to a vector format. I’m sure I have read there’s a way to do it.

I’ve tried the auto trace utility in Corel but as with a lot of things ‘auto’, the final result isn’t that great.

I don’t think Omega converts to vector does it? I know it’ll print using process foils but the cut lines around the individual components would have to be traced I guess?

I need to practice manual tracing in Corel, I just can’t get the hang of the bezier tool!

I’ll send the jpg file by email.

Can’t believe I’ve been so dumb!
