OK. OK. Last one I promise…..
This was a 35 meter long flex face, all done in one piece. I had to make telescopic brackets as the wall was so wonky. I will let the pictures tell the construction story. It was more involved than it looked.

Thank to John Childs for his help on this one converting artwork. :2thumbs:

I may do a more in-depth article on this one if I get the time. (Read that as ….if I can be bothered! :lol1: 🙄 )

    Enjoy!

That just about sums up what I get up to during the weeks. It all puts bread on the table.

I’ll give you a rest for a while.

    Hi Mike

    Missed this one mate…

Your horizontal running aluminum extrusions. is this a banner or flex-face tensioning system or something you have come up with yourself?
if its a tensioning system, which one is it?

thanks for any feedback on this mate.

It was a system called Crystal flex or something similar, I think they have gone to the wall as I nearly lost my £1600 I paid up front for the extrusions, they were taken over by another company but I cant find any info on the net or in my files sorry.

think ill have to give spirit displays a call Ian, hadnt seen that one… ive used their extrusions in the past on a lightbox. "not its intended purpose" but wanted to try something different… anyway, worked a treat but found it too flexi and clumsy to work with due to my make-shift lightbox. this one looks far more rigid.

mike, was it a hammer in nylon T-shaped type tensioning strip you fitted to the extrusion to tension your banner mate?

    YES!

This was the heavy duty extrusion you can get lighter profiles for different situations.

Would love a job like that – but have no idea how flex face even works! 😳

    Few questions:

    1) How do you print 35 metres in one go with tracking issues?

    2) How much do you charge for a job like that! 😮

Sub it out to a company and leave them with the headache! Simples!

Sorry but that is between me and my customer and not for public consumption.

Fair do’s, but I’m guessing he’s gonna have to sell a fair bit of carpet 😉

Cheers mike, yeah used same sort mate, but the extrusion i used wasn’t as robust as that. will have to have a look at whats available nowadays because that was a couple of years ago now i used that one last.

Gwaredd, flexi-face systems vary allot with regards to how they are tensioned. to be honest though, they are all pretty straightforward and a dream to work with on monster sized signs.
suppliers of the systems normally manufacture the whole sign in-house.
disassemble it into parts and deliver. you, the sign maker, just erects it bit by bit and apply the face. the face is basically like a drum skin.
you tack it into place, then begin tightening it bit by bit working your way around the edges until taught.
ive fitted a good lot of flex face signs now, but only using a few systems. would like to have a go at more.
Saw an extrusion you could buy from a french supplier at the sign show, forget their name now. but liked the idea of it as it allowed you to build your own flex-face signs in house.

anyway, im waffling, :lol1: just sat down to a cuppa tea after a bloody cold out door fitting. 😀

Mike, did you not experience allot of bounce/flex from the extrusion between your projecting uprights? by that i mean, as you hammered the nylon gripper in place. did you find it a bit difficult to hammer home due to the flex? or did it just all close and tighten up as you went along?

Rob, solid as a rock. No bounce to worry about.

    Thanks mike,
Thats good to know mate… having had another look at your pictures. your support brackets are pretty close together. by that i mean not allot of span to create much flex. sorry, i know im "looking" for issues here. not meaning to sound that way… just thinking out loud here on me finding a regular use for this type of extrusion.
think the only thing to do is just buy in a length and have a mess about with some tests of my own. could be a good tutorial along the way also. 😀
