Pest Control
Posted by Marcella Ross on December 5, 2005 at 6:42 pmCan anyone offer some sure fire advice on getting rid of mice? The little buggers are munching their way through anything and everything that’s stored in the garages. I’ve put down traps but they’re not taking the bait.
I’ve been told they prefer soap to cheese….?????? Tried both but they still seem to prefer, toilet roll, dog food, car polish, plastic, lids off disenfectant, my mop………………….!!!!!! 😮I don’t want to use poison as they might crawl under the floorboards and die…… eurghhh, the smell would be horrendous.

Poison is fine, the poor little buggers dont smell when dead they just dry up.
Also a good bait for your traps is (and no its not a spoonerism) cooking fat, lard or dripping.Peter

that would go down well in a house with 2 german shepherds ….. 😮 😮 😮 Their love for cats is immeasurable……..
Pete, I’ll give the cooking fat thing a go.

Marcella, you could always try this……..
make some nice little signs, saying……NO MICE ALLOWED.

marcella i have the exact same problem…..they are driving me mad 😮
but get yourself a metal trap…(i dont give a monkeys about using the freindly traps) cause your ment to catch them in a box then let them go outside, but they come back in again 🙄
anyway..get your trap and buy a big bag of bounty’s put a big chunk in the trap…trust me it works, brad caught 5 in four days…and im still counting they love the oil and chocolate 😀

thanks for all the tips.
Peter – loved the idea of a sign but my mice are illiterate unfortunately.Nik – that’s the 2nd piece of advice telling me to use chocolate, I must give that a try. I’ve got the metal traps. Had the humane ones a few years ago and only caught one, let it go and it went back in!!! So this time I’ve got the killer instinct!
Poor wee things, I kinda feel sorry for them, I don’t really want to kill them but what a bleedin mess they make.I’m off to change the bait …. we’ll see what the morning brings!

😀 Paul, we got something similar a couple of years ago to rid the garden of moles………… the little buggers took the p1ss out of us and dug the thing up!
May just resort to an air gun!

We have had problems with mice and find that poison gets rid of them. You can get this from places like homebase. They don’t die straight away but go out into the garden and fall asleep. It’s also more humane as they don’t suffer when they die – just fall into a deep sleep and don’t wake up again. 😀
…..(Ok I lied about it being more humane – I have found dead ones under the floorboards – dried and curled up having suffered an agonising final 48 hours of life choking on the poison they have ingested, meanwhile all the other mice (including the baby mice) in the family have gathered around trying to ease the poor mites suffering to no avail – but Peters right, they don’t smell – honest 😳 )

Cats work every time and have fun doing it :lol1: Ours can catch mice, rats, birds, squirrels and moles ( damn fine mole catchers, I will rent them out for £25 an hour if anyone is interested ) Uh Oh I can feel a mod-edit coming on for advertising :lol1:

I’m sure a cat is the best pest control…. problem is I hate cats!!! I really allergic to them and I don’t trust them…….. 😕 They look cute but I’d rather kick one than pet one! 😳

We have the same problem at the moment with mice, well not anymore. I’ve found that twix works well in the traps, and we now have 9 plug in ultrasonic pest control sensors, seem to be working OK until this morning, just found a mouse in a trap right next to one of the sensors. well maybe this mickey was deaf.

Could you not borrow a neighbors cat for a few days-shut it in the garage at night & out during the day? Know it’s not purrrfect, but may help……. 😕
