    Morning Ben,

I think you will find M8 that there is a lot of help and info in the news section of the forum on how to build a new Work Bench, Media Rack & Tools & much much more that have been posted by Rob & Others that have been a great help to me also, did you have any main points that you need to clear up on.

I am sure there is a 1001 things for you to get sorted and most if not all have been tackled by one or two of us I am sure LOL.

Good luck and all the best
    Paul 😀

I moved premises around 6 months ago – downsized from a 1700sq ft down to a 527sq ft. My best advice would be to measure the new premises accurately and draw a floor plan – this will determine the size of bench you can have etc. I had to measure all my equipment and lay this over the floor plan until I found the correct design. Still a lot of shoehorning going on though :lol1:

    Cheers John

    hey Ben,

We moved just over 12 mths ago to a new unit and we are still working on it. My only advice is make sure you have enough room to work comfortably and you are not tripping over any one or thing.

If you have a look at my post from last year you may get a idea or two. I will see if i can get some pics one year later !!

I don’t think you looked in the workshop Dave, just think you popped in the room where we design and our sever room. I do miss sending files around the world, now all I do is send it down a 1 meter cable !!

i just thought if everyone was showing their work space then here`s mine .Its not as big as i would like and my printer has to be angled slightly ..well to vertical really but hey my vinyl doesn`t track off so thats a blessing .Rent is cheap and because of it`s compact bespoke design it doesn`t need much in the way of cleaning or maintenance so i think im on a winner here.Hope you all enjoy and are all jealous [/img]

Thought I’d add in mine now that it’s more or less complete.

12m x 5.5m upstairs, nice 6m bench which is handy.

Have a 4m x 2m storage room too for tooling & material, so less chance of my personal tools getting ‘borrowed’…

Another set of lights to go in above the bench and some insulation above the suspended ceiling to help keep it warmer.

For vehicles & working on 10×5’s which are too much of a PITA to bring upstairs most of the time I have access to the (now heated) unit/shed and loading bay up by the main factory…and some more storage.

Beats being in the porta-cabin for the months when my office was getting built!!

    Interesting thread

You dont want to see the kitchen where i make stuff, although I do use the garage as well.

David, you say you worked from a porta cabin, I’ve been thinking about setting one up in the forecourt of an old petrol station. There’s a car wash there already and I know the guy quite well.

Do you think it’s worth it for a start away from the house? or is are there to many pitfalls, like getting insurance for instance?

You can get them up to 32 foot, and at 8 foot wide a 4 foot table would still leave 2 foot either side.

Not quite as cozy as Kevin’s set up mind you.

I work from home in the garage, I won’t post a photo of the computer area where the plotters etc are – just imagine a hand grenade exploding in a relatively small area.
Regarding insurance – equipment etc is no problem but ordinary home insurance will be more depending on how many visitors you get. When I told companies that I worked from home and expected more than 3-4 visits per week either they wouldn’t insure me or the cost went up substantially, best deal was with Direct Line. That is for ordinary home and content insurance and does NOT include equipment or liability insurance, that is with someone else, just an example of how working from home is not overhead free.
