    well not exactly πŸ˜†

i’,m posting this to stop the pm’s and e-mails ive been clocking up last couple of days..

I am aware that about 30 registered names have dropped from the boards.
Sorry for not mentioning it but it was myself that deleted them.
Each one had been notified a few months ago about having no content in there profile.
Some had bogus emails also. There were no pictures and none had made any posts in the last 10 months.
So other than they update their profile I deleted them. Everyone else has submitted details, why not them.
The real reason for this is down to security and to know who we have registered the site.
It helps us communicate better when trading business and we all gain a sense of trust in each other.
For instance; if someone posted a virus in the file swapping forum.. We instantly know who was responsible.
If someone sold someone something in buy-sell-swap and did not pay. We know who to contact etc etc

All this said. The people deleted know they have been and have been asked repeatedly.
They can at any time re-register on our new system were certain fields must be filled. Further more I have to activate the account once registration has been completed so bogus completed fields do not work either.

I have only scanned the first 200 the rest will be done in a week or so..

Pheeeeeeeeeeeeeeew! Just got me picture done in time πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜†

I agree with your sentiments Robert

I don’t think that what you are asking for is the Earth!

Registration seems to be fairly simple (I say that because I managed to fill it out) πŸ˜‰

As you say they CAN reregister if they WANT to

Did notice the registration drop dramatically the other day!!!

    thanks john
i guess some folk are a little uneasy because of the whole internet thing and that. but the feilds do indicate now that the info is hidden from general browsing.. πŸ˜‰

I wouldn’t worry about it to much Robert, I think the majority of people on the boards would support what you are doing. I have read a number of posts by different people who have said one of the things they like about the site is the lack of stupid/rude replies to posts and the fact that people genuinely seem to want to help each other.
By asking people to provide certain details at registration helps to keep the boards that way as it is instantly known who has posted it. Your not asking people to provide info about themselves which could not be found out fairly easily by other methods so if they have nothing to hide then I see no reason why they should be reluctant to fill out the profile.
Keep up the good work, as I said at the start of this post I’m sure the majority of the board members are in favour of the registration process.

Rob I think all the members who are here agree with what you have been forced into doing. You did give them fair warning. I am a bit guilty of not posting too often but surfing the site every day, but thats not a problem. The problem arises over security issues, if you cannot confirm who people are then they should go.

The site has taken a lot of hard work and you should be proud of what you have here.

Stuart, I have to agree with you about the posting, it would be nice if more people would make posts on a regular basis and it would probably help the site to grow and become even more interesting but I dont think it is a requirement of membership and it shouldn’t stop people from checking in on a regular basis. There are lots of reasons why people dont put up posts and I dont think they sould be excluded for not posting. You might not have made as many posts as some people but you have made a lot more than some of the members.

i agree… posts dont have to be made.. but if people want to then its good to know who they are..
infact out of 60 full uksg members only about 40 visit the site regular and only about 25 use it daily to post…. πŸ™„

I think, before you are allowed to post and have access to other areas, you need to confirm that the details are correct, by sending in an old bill or something. Photos should be a must.

Having been on other sites, where people are slagged off for asking questions. Or when selling something, making sarcastic comments about the price or the equipment.

Then theres the dodgy programs subject. And even downloading the files and putting them on swopmeet discs.

I`ve been on other sites, where there has been people using 3 differant user names, caught out by them all having the same e-mail address.

If you are not willing to give full details, then you have either something to hide.

    i agree mate..

what i will be doing, when i get a lttle time is to use the new software i have bought to check on people for the purchases in the shop.

if i type in the name of a sign company it gives full address and tell numbers etc..
if i type in a persons name it give me full detials again.. and various other methods.. postcode and the like…
does it in a second and is based on the electorial roll and directory enquiries.. so pretty soon ill have only genuine sign makers that are genuinly wanting to participate, help out. or simply learn from others..

im unsure right at this minute bob..
i do have some ideas though… but will put into practice over the next month or so. this will not effect the “already” registered users from abroad.
the regular visitors from the likes of the states and aus.. like bob gilliland, gray, henry, lee, rosemary and many more, all participate regularly and im thrilled that they do.. each one are very very talented in their own areas of our trade.
i love seeing what these guys can do..i learn from them daily. even if its just to see the changes in design ideas, layouts etc…
with this in mind i would hate to create a wall which new comers from abroad may find.. a deterant to register or may even find it down right rude to single them out.. when really the issue isnt where they are from but simply a bit of “on-site security”
the site is for everyone, everywhere & i really want to keep it that way. but, i will try and maintain it more strictly.. as far as registering goes that is.
in the past i used various boards.
some more than others, i can honestly say the one i prefferd was letterheads. but was probably the one i least posted on..
normaly by the time i had got round to finding a post i liked, about 10 people had already replied. so no real need to. but i did want to… on other occasion i would read stuff about products such as krylon. but i never have used this material and lots of others because they were from abroad. so again i could not post.. i think i know a fair bit about our end of the trade.. but i really hadnt much to offer on letterheads that wasnt already in full swing on that site.
with this in mind. i wonder if lots from the usa, canada and the like visit this site and maybe dont post for simular reason to me…

i spoke in chat a while back to bob gilliland… he had very simular ideas to me on the way a website such as this should be run. some interesting ideas too… in a perfect world, we would have the very best independant signmakers from around the globe all with there own forum. to help, discuss, & have a good old chinwag to folk that placed posts in their forum.
    bit like mikes actauly.. πŸ˜‰

Just checking in to make sure that I didn’t get deleted!

I look in on the site fairly regularly, but will only typically submit a post when I feel that I have something relevant to add.

Thanks for letting me stick around, Robert (!)

    Robert,

Glad to hear about your housekeeping duties; sorry that is has to be done though. This is a wonderful site and it’s unfortunate that some that took the time to do a partial registration in the past haven’t answered the request for a more complete and valid profile. Add to that the lack of visitation and/or participation and it makes me wonder why, if serious about the craft and industry, or valid to begin with, what keeps them from seeing the continued value? Great job Robert!

Very similar to Jon, my recent activity has me doing a lot more β€œlurking” lately then contributing. I attempt to read as much as I can recently, but finding it difficult to even do that lately. And with my diarrhea of the mouth, make that keyboard, replies aren’t coming as often as I would like. Real shame as I lose and the board looses. πŸ™ Hope to be able to change that soon.

    Sincerely submitted,
    Signed, a Robert Lambie Fan!!

    Question for Gray:

β€œWould you desert us over dessert?”
