    Hi people,

    Can anyone tell me if;

    a) you use a PDA
    b) are they worth the expense
    c) what do you like most about using one
    d) do you have the PDA with the inbuilt GPS

I have been tossing up about using one because I keep getting so many calls in a day, and my diary is never with me, or I forget it or whatever.

Everytime I ask a PDA user if they like it, they always say yes, but I figure they’ll say that anyway otherwise they’ll look like a twit!

Just curious, they are $1000 here, so it is a lot of expense. Would hate everyone to say later “na mate, waste of money…. you should of asked me 1st and I would have told you blah blah..

Hi Shane, I have the Dell Axim hardly use it now as I forget to put things in to it, or couldn’t remember the guys name/company to find the number I was looking for. Just use a writing pad now find it quicker to find things as my mind knows where on a page I wrote it, just before xyz or after abc, may sound strange but it works for me.

I do keep thretening to get back to it, but I think you need to be methodical about using it. By the time you open it and type in the text, and save etc, you could have written it down three times in a pad.#

a> i know how they work
    b> yes
    c> paperless office
d> umm.. yes (it has a box with the gps bit in it)

Normally a PDA ‘syncronises’ to Microsoft Office (or similar), so if you don’t use a program like Microsoft Office, start using it. It will list all your contacts, To Do’s, Calendars, email etc.

Then you got to think about sensitivity, if you loose the mobile/PDA then how much info is valuable to u. So syncronisation is an option.

The boss has one and I don’t have one but familar with the operation.

    Hi Shane,

I use one all the time.

Mine has excel on it, so I can put in prices & info etc, I can even update my accounts on the train if I want to. If I’m on the move and I get a call , it allows me to see what I charged a customer before.

The diary facility is great and allows me to set up reminders, as well as appointments. All my addresses, phone numbers & e-mails are at hand. It also allows me to draw, freehand on it and store to memory.

The photo facility allows me to send pictures back to the office via e-mail, or receive picture messaging from customers.

I can access the internet anywhere on the world. It has full colour pictures and text facility. I can even use my on-line banking facility and move money around or check my accounts anywhere.

I’m flying out to Tenerife in a weeks time, but will continue to take calls, texts, e-mails & orders. I will even be checking the UKSB from time to time to check up on the progress of the 2006 calender !!!! 😳

All in all, I can honestly say that I would not be without mine.

In the Uk, I think the prices are somewhere between £250 – £450 at the moment, so don’t know how that compares.

    Anyway, I hope that helps.

    Best wishes,

    Cheryl 🙂

Cheryl you have got me all excited about PDAs again 😀

They do amazing stuff, I think you have to get in to another way of thinking, or working, perhaps I need to get back on to mine.

Which one do you have Cheryl?

    Cheers

    Hi dave,
I have the Xda ll. It works on the O2 network.

I always know that when I go to do a quote, I’ve got everything I need with me (apart from a tape measure, which is very handy ) 🙄 :lol1:

I’ve had mine for about 18 months now. It took me a while to get into using it, but wouldn’t go anywhere without it now.

I specialise in marine graphics, so I’m darting around all over the place. All the info I need is in the pda.

Having the internet connection is a real big advantage. The screens a bit small, but the service is the same – I can google where ever I want to ! 😮

    Best wishes,

    Cheryl 😀

The XDA’s II’s is a great all in one solution… Camera/PDA/Bluetooth/Phone and some come with GPS & Wifi but you have to sort that out…. Shane, look up your mobile people and maybe they sell the XDA II out there.

i looked into this too mate, i recently bought the sony ericsson p-910
it has everything, and i mean everything. i have not even looked into the nav side of it and probably wont either. i got it strictly for email access, group and supplier contact info, browsing the boards if i need to. it has tons of stuff, the screen is big too, so if eyesight bad like mine, its really handy. comes with little touch scren pens too if you dont like the flip down (little) keyboard. typing with this pen is much faster than anything i have seen. has video camera, still shot camera, word, MP3, etc etc
i am still getting to grips with it and all the free software that comes with it.
best thing is, when you get home, sit it into the dock and download all content as backup to your pc….

best thing of all. its just a mobile phone… 😀

I had one YEARS ago, when they first came out – very diff. than those out now. I tried, but I still ended up writing everything on paper…just more natural for me. Every once in a while I think OH yeah, I should get one of those…then I remember how much it cost me to throw it away :lol1:

Let us know how you make out

I’ve been waiting for this one to come out in Aus, as i still don’t think its here yet in stores.
    I settled for the Motorolla a1000 (its a 3 phone 🙁 )
It has all the cool stuff, but unfortunately can only take transflash memory cards (last phone had memory stick duo). I read that it has gps, but apparently 3 doesn’t support it, i haven’t looked into that yet tho.
