Hi, it’s my first time on here, great site and very informative !
Glad I managed to find it.
I was wondering if anyone knew of anyone that could help me with my
PC60 Colorcamm. I purchased it around 18mths ago second-hand with very little use.
Within the first 3 months I replaced the head and had it serviced by the Roland tech guy, (at great expense) !
The machine very rarely gets used for printing, more for cutting. But now seems to snap every ribbon within seconds of starting.
Is there anyone in the Lancashire area that maybe could alter the heat sensor, which I belive to be too high. It snaps both Roland and replacement ribbons nearly all the time.
Or do I need to contact Roland and pay their rates 😥
    Cheers
    Peely

One of the reasons ribbons snap is cos a very thin vertical line is printed , IE in printing a thin box outline of the ribbon encounters just a thin vertical line , it sort of acts as one of those vacuum heat sealers with a sealing type strip , the thn line heats the carrier too much and it snaps . try thickening up the “box” outline if this occurs
If its not his , its a problem withtensionin or cartrige chainging.
BEWARE some aftermarket gold and silver refis , thes flake off small particles of foil at the edges of the ribbon and these flakes short out the tracks leading to the printing edge , we have blown a few heads cos of aftermarket gold.

you will find tons of posts on pc60-600 on the boards.. i stop replying to requests because most issues have been covered at least twice..
that and the fact i rabble on and on.. 😆

have a search for the posts.. you will see what i mean vy repeat questions and long threaded posts..

i dont have a problem with ribbon snaps. it has in the past few years it has only happend 3 or 4 times. easy resolved though.. get both ends & put a little selotape over both, joining them.. wind the ribbon on a few inches and away you go..
i think there has been or can be multiple issues for them breaking.. i dont think there is any one problem that causes it. but some more often than others, granted. 🙄

Thanks for the replies guys, but believe me I seem to have covered most of what you recommend.
Most of the print is NOT in thin lines, either vertical or horizontal, just block mainly.
I have repaired literally hundreds of ribbons, thats not the problem, its the cost of re-doing the whole print again, especially when one snaps on the last ribbon change.
Is there anyone in Lancs. or near who might be able to take a look at the machine and sort it.
I really feel as though the temperature is too high. When I examine the ribbons afterwards, they are just about hanging together where the print has been used, not normal me thinks. 🙄

Have you checked the little roller next to the printhead. This could have started to disintegrate and will snap ribbons. Also make sure that it is on the roller properly, try easing it towards you as you look at it.
