Popped into the Apple store before a meeting today and am sorely tempted into finally switching over to Mac.
What swung it for me was that they have the dual server software now so that i can continue to run all my pc software and printers that we have built up over the years.

Just wondered if anyone else has done this and if they would recommend it?

    thanks

    Ryan

I’ve switched from PC to MAC

Only downside I’d say is lack of certain software for the MAC

If running dual boot (ie closing down from one to the other) then it’s fine

Virtual (ie running from MAC) then make sure you have a decent machine

I’d like to slowly make the move over to mac… but IMO windows is too slow running under Bootcamp.

So I think we will still end up with a windows PC running one or two apps.

I love macs but do think having both a mac and PC side by side has it’s advantages as you can work mainly on your mac while ripping etc on the PC that is networked to the mac.

I haven’t used Bootcamp or Parallels or any of those dual boot options but am quiet happy with the laptop PC networked which I only print from.

Everything works and connects/talks so seamlessly between the mac and PC there are no hassles at all doing it this way.

    cheers

i have worked with a mac and a PC next to each other with shared drives for years, IMHO its the best way to run both. i have never had any issues (stay away from vista if doing this though)

    Hi.

We run a couple of IMacs (2.4 Duals with 4GB of Ram).

Running VMWare’s Fusion software allows us to run XP and Vista PC’s inside the Mac with no noticeable decrease in speed (they each take a processor).

The lovely thing is that as we have a network of PC’s as well – the Mac’s can work on that network seamlessly using shared folders on the file server, swapping files around and so forth (whether its the Mac or the PC).

You can even get rid of the old favourite data fork files by using software that scans the drives automatically (Blue Harvest is one such app) and removes them – this avoids PC users going barmy over double 0kb files!

The Mac can use just about any PC USB device, the Virtual PC can use all the devices on the Mac, will share or bridge the Ethernet connection and all manner of nice things – you can even have the PC inside the Mac displayed on the network as its own node.

I could go on, but I suspect I’ve said enough. No doubt someone will now tell me that it can all be got for free and I don’t know what I am talking about.

    Hi,
We have installed windows xp professional on all our MACs. We hardly use use it now.
Just once in a while the staffs shows off to impress clients. We have Core2duo iMac, Quad and 8 core MacPros with 6GB, 10GB ram and dual monitors so we can drag file from mac to windows, from one monitor to the other. On windows XP we have installed Corel draw to check and convert client’s files.

    quote Joseph Helm:

windows is too slow running under Bootcamp.

Windows runs under Bootcamp natively so it should run at the speed of the Mac.

Like Warren, I have a PC directly connected to plotters. I have tried the Mac with USB / Serial Parallel convertors but I just like the PC on its own running the printing. I am trying to get into Illustrator on the Mac but keep the easy option of what I know, Corel on PC 😥
