  • Path not closing fully…

Posted by David Hammond on September 28, 2023 at 4:37 pm

Can anyone explain what’s going on here, I’ve tried various settings on the cutter (FC8600) but the paths don’t seem to close fully, so weeding can be a bit fun.

Tried a new blade, tangent modes, overcut, I’m at a loss.

I think offset, but it’s set as it should be for the smart knife, and the test cut looks OK.

    hi David

check your blade holder “bracket” for any “play” in it.
then check your carriage for any play.
even if you can’t see any play. tighten up all the screws you can access in and around these parts.
when a machine is used a lot, it’s easy for a little play to start and gets loose very quickly.
this can result in circles and shapes not returning perfectly in line.

it is worth a try to rule it and is easily fixed.
make sure you are not using the wrong size screwdrivers because these little screws are easily threaded.

Thinking about it, you might be onto something, it rings a bell that I had something similar many years ago.

Will be interesting to see if this fixes it for you David.

Not hardware-related, but we had a graphic design that worked for us a few years ago.
I forget what she did, but she created an issue that looks very much like what you have posted.
It only happened with vector “fonts” that originated from her computer. From memory, I did a system restore going back around a week or two before the problem occurred and it fixed the problem.

Just another option for you if tightening the hardware does not fix the problem.
