I have a client who wants this design on his van and I have quoted him for the design, with frame and photos, printed onto cast which I can push into the recess on the rear of a VW van. I originally took the design from his brochure which was black with sepia coloured photos.
However his van is blue and he now wants the photo frame in blue. I explained it would be impossible to get an exact match to the van and it was better to stick with the black which didn’t need to match and was consistent with his brochure.

He seemed to understand the colour match problem and has asked now if I can therefore print the photo shapes as seperate pieces and put them on individually so the colour of the van shows through in between them.

My gut instinct is that although possible it won’t look as good as a single print.
What are other peoples thoughts and are there any disadvanteges of doing them seperately appart from alignment?

    agree prefer the black.

if he wants separate bits with the blue in between then a hefty, digitizing charge, print laminate and cut then apply with application tape.

i have been doing to smart cars, which i have sectioned so that part of the graphic that goes over a black panel can have a white outline and the rest of the graphic that goes across a white panel doesn’t have the outline because whites don’t match Yours does look slightly easier but mine has been a pain To top it off got it sorted today & laminate lifted off the print someone is going to get an hear full tomorrow

to be honest, it will be a lot easier and cheaper to do in pieces, do a quick, trace and print on a polymeric, as it’s in pieces it can be easily fed into the recesses, so no need for a cast.
