• Paper Template ?

Posted by Kevin.Beck on February 1, 2003 at 10:09 am

    hi all

I want to make a paper template, this template it to enable several items to be lined up in their respective positions.

can i do it on the plotter? Being in mind that the blade has got to cut cleanly through the paper. won`t it kill the cutting strip?

    ideas anyone. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

    cheers Becky

KEV, remove blade fit plotter pen, plot onto paper, cut out with scissors, make sure you use the round ended ones, a la Blue Peter, don’t want any nasty injuries do we, if this makes you nervous then ask a grown up. ๐Ÿ˜†
The best plotter paper by far is lining paper from DIY stores about 99p a roll.

Do you have a pounce attachment?

WE use our old Sprint and Gerber S750 regualrly for making paper patterns.

I believe I could also buy a pounce tool to my Summa T750 but think the Gerber pounces best….what plotter do you have?

Becky we cut loads of logos in individual letters for exhibitions and conferences and as an extra to all our clients we supply fixing templates. As Steve suggested simply put a plotting pen into the holder plot the graphic onto thin card not paper draw a box into the text towards the bottom with a scalpel simply cut the first 10-50mm depending on the cap height of the graphic the text then slots into the holes you can cut rectangles instead of the letter contour or you can do what i did years ago buy a beautiful plotter blade and housing from Harry Mattias it cuts thin card!- simply set the depth of cut and the letter drops out of the card leaving an excellent spacing template this method is great for fixing lettering onto fascias you can of course do the same with paper by far the best and cheapest is large 1200mm, 1000 or 600mm wide rolls of brown kraft paper it lasts ages and prints great
Hope this is of some help e mail me if above is not clear
    Have fun Steve ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜†

A pounce attachment is a (in Gerbers case) liitle wheel with points like a spur, and as the plotter plots a makes thousands of small holes in the paper, then use a pounce pad, a wooden or plastic block filled with charcoal powder and rub it over the finshed pattern, you are then left with a dotted pattern for painting, positioning freestanding letters, or cutting out letters or shapes with saw, hotwire or such.

We just made a pattern that was 10m long for the Eurovision Song Contest when it reaches Gothenburg in the national run up. They wanted to make the work “Gรถteborg” with balllons.

I don’t know if Mutoh or Roland do a pounce attachment. Mutoh might as they made Gerbers fastrack plotters, I am not sure if you could pounce with them?

Hey Henry I wouldn’t shout too loud about having anything to do with Eurovision ๐Ÿ˜† , if Abba2 win it’ll be your fault, do folks in Sweden really take this drivel seriously, ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜†

Unfortunately they do take it quite seriously ๐Ÿ™„ ….or should that be fortunate for me ๐Ÿ™‚ we did 2 13.5 trailers last year and 3 Outside broadcast units plus a load od decals so it was quite a good earner in January, this year they have cut back somewhat, but we’re still doing the work….its called the Melodifestival here!!

Benny Andersson from Abba is building a luxury hotel and cinema complex here, or renovating an old hotel and cinema, that I had made signs for….he’s diversifying.

Not forgetting “Bardot” with “one step further”.

Surely its a crime that they sank without trace ๐Ÿ˜•

There’ll always be a place in my heart for Bardot (especially the girl singer)

    (If you haven’t a clue what I’m on about – don’t worry – I haven’t a clue either ๐Ÿ˜• )

I cut paper patterns on my camm 1 without any problem. Its a matter of getting the blade pressure adjusted correctly.
