  • Paper or clear application/transfer tape

    Hi all.

Just a quick question about peoples opinions/experience with each of these types of application/transfer tape.

I have always used clear application tape. The price difference between paper and clear is so minimal that I don’t really consider that a deciding factor, but I like that my customer can see the item how it’s supposed to appear once applied.
However, I have had issues where the app tape/vinyl has come sort of separated from the backing paper when the backing paper has absorbed moisture. Obviously, I don’t mean fully detached, but that sort of ripple effect that sometimes happens.

Having never used paper, I was just wondering if this is something that does, or doesn’t happen with paper as well.

Also, just for general info, what are peoples preference?

    Thanks,

    Pete J.

    Hi Peter,
This is probably going to just be one of those personal preference things.
My own being for R Tape Conform (paper).
I have tried a few others over the years but always regret it as soon as I start using them & then can’t wait for it all to be gone so I can get back to the Conform.
It is slightly more expensive but behaves & handles better in my opinion. Less prone to edge curling when left around for any time & doesn’t seem to suffer the issue of tunneling when rolled. However, I think whatever you use may suffer if allowed to get damp at all.
I have tried the clear & actually still have a 12" section I very very occasionally use but again I never really gelled with it.

Use paper 90% of the time. Only use clear when the cut vinyl needs to be lined up with another item.
