    Hi All

i have been sent a customers logo in eps format from their “designer”, they want the pantones near enough spot on , but there is no vinyl colour match thta realy fits.

Question is this. If i send the printer the eps file will the softwrae/rip match up the pantones easily? or is it pretty hit and miss.

Stupid question i know to all you seasoned printer guys and gals i know but i’m not sure of the answer 🙂

    Hi Mort

Have the colours been set as Spot colours or CMYK colours in the artwork?

    Hi Vivid

    CMYK i think

    c 100
    m 60
    y 0
    k 6

is one of the colours, simple logo realy easy to recreate in cut vinyl but again teh designer has used pantone colours that have no close macth 🙁

The Closest spot colour is 286.

Most companies, well corporates have a spec of RGB, CMYK & Spot colours they use. Designers always need a little slap now n then to get them back in the real world mmmm looks great on my screen. Just make sure you cover yourself and they make the decision.

I think your only option may be to show them vinyl swatches or do a small test print of the logo.

Unless the system is colour calibrated I personally think you will be off colour wise.

    Just my 50p’s worth.

    Tim.

I think that might be your’s or the printer’s biggest problem coz probably if it is a new design than 90% chances of the original artwork the customer as seen, was printed on an inkjet printer; if soo then you’re in trouble. :nag4:

Best way i think of getting an happy customer is to show him the printed version, show him the swatches of vinyl let him choose wich one of the closest ones he prefers. Write it on the sample, (explaining wich one substitutes wich), make him sign it. If you’re goin for the printed version, make a small sample proof, , and make him sign it!!! Never forget that!!

Don’t forget also to explain him that diferent types of media using same color, in same printer, will result in a diferent color output. Basically what i mean is:
    you’re in a minefield!! (hot)

Just be sure you explain it to him in a professional tone and he’ll just forget what designer did, and will trust you and your professional knowledge. 😉
