  • Panatrim Sign Question

Posted by Paul Humble on November 26, 2008 at 5:42 pm

Ive just won the order for two Panatrim signs with a local business. Originally they wanted a pan fascia but the overall cost put them off.

The question I have is which material is best to use with panatrim fixings? Its going to be gloss black with a join, am I best with dibond or acryllic?

    Cheers

Ive had a look at the tutorial, thats what made me decide to offer a Panatrim to the customer, its a very good tutorial.

The signs are 2930 x 740mm and 4000 x 740mm. The only reason I doubted dibond was the lady at Robert Horne mentioned it will have a slight curve where its been cut (I may have misunderstood her, ill be ringing again Tuesday). I had never heard of this happening before to be honest.

    Cheers

Paul one big tip I would say is to asses the site properly and work out how easy or hard it will be to fit the panels in to the frame.

An hours easy install can become hours and a lot of labour on site uncharged if things are overlooked.

Things like air con units, paypoint signs etc always seem to make an easy install a pain in the a*se making sliding large panel in NOT possible sometimes.

Just my 2p’s worth – been there done that live’n’learn.

    Tim.

Rob…why do you prefer dibond over acrylic?

how do you allow for the panels pulling apart and do you cover the raw edge of the dibond?

We’ve always used acrylic with a rebated join.

You could also consider a gloss PVC foamboard such as Foamalux Ultra. This is cheaper than acrylic but looks the same. Don’t be tempted to use a matt black foam board as this will quickly fade. The gloss finish provides protection against UV fading.

The rebated edges would be a bonus, the panels pulling apart were a worry.

Where is a good supplier of Acrylic and Gloss PVC Foamboard. Im away tomorrow for 5 days so im looking to order the parts on Tuesday, but the customer wants it up by Christmas so I dont want to be waiting ages for parts.

    Cheers as ever guys

    Amari Plastics….Team Valley

if you are unsure on your first job of this type why not price the job ready made. Frames come ready to screw together panels have hanging strips & rebates plus panel locks. You have no waste (but also no off cuts), no mess making the rebates etc & you know its going to fit. If you have obstacles either side you can order for front loading. Doing your first job of this type this way allows you to see how its done & works.

    You could try

but there are plenty of other suppliers out there

Cherwell do it too and I have always used them, I did the same and ordered my first one in ready made and took many measurements to see how they did it and what spaces etc to leave, I have now made some myself and although good enough quality have never been able to make it as perfectly as they do it 🙄
