I need to spray paint a tint onto foamex, any ideas on what paint to use?
Its only a small area of about 2′ x 2′ fading from d/blue to white.m It will be going out-doors, so needs to be stable

if its just regular foamex.. mat sort of finish that is, then a normal acrylic spray paint will do. blue isnt effected too much by the uv light so you should be fine.
what you need watch for is peeling when you remove the backing tape from the text. also, some paints crack when the foam exspands and contracts with temprature changes.
personaly, i would probably use frog joice. you can by in in various colours from victory. about £7 a can…
or use serical inks in a spray gun or can.. this will be more exspensive though as there is very little being used.

im sure some others will have ideas of their own. 😉

Forgot to say, if you have to use paint. I would suggest gentle rubbing the area to be painted with some kind of light abrasive pad. Maybe flattening paper.
However, this is not necessary with ink or frog juice paint! 😉

Just bought some frog juice that you hand paint on using little foam brushes which Victory supply @ about 70p a brush

    The 946ml can cost 29.95 +VAT + carriage

Its fantastic stuff as you can recoat within minutes and it prepares your foamex for a lick of paint.

Vinyl screen printing ink is the baby you should use if you can scrounge some from your local printers.

Then we can go another route, there is a local supplier here that has manufactured a spray paint that takes to foamex and has a 10 year guarantee, will not fade or flake, and no surface preperation needed. Just spray it on, it dries in seconds and comes highly recommended. The company is called Karnaval Kolour Coatings Ltd
    Their address is….

    Karnaval House
    White City Road
    Kingsway
    Fforestfach Ind Est
    Swansea
    Tel: 01792 582828

They can supply to any Ral colour match and is available by the litre or in spray can form. And is available in matt, satin or gloss.

I use ESP (easy surface prep) before painting. It’s about £11.00 from any paint wholesaler. It’s clear, just wipe on with a lint free cloth and 90 mins later you can paint gloss straight on.
