hi all, just thought you might like to see some woodlook tippers ive just done, their all paint, airbrushed & hand lettered, was going to print the logo on cadet, but must admit quality of digital work isnt always as good as paint, i did originaly print it, but had to rip it off & paint it, only thing is ive got 7 more to do!

Nice to see the old skills still being used, and you are so right that some prints just dont look as good as paint. Excellent work.

    Great job!

Now all you need to do is take a good photo of your finished truck, taken in the MAXIMUM resolution possible, and with a good printer I would bet no one would know the difference between your paint finish and a quality printed finish from more than a few feet away…

However, it is entirely dependent on you getting all the elements absolutely right along the way. A decent printer will produce photgraphic quality artwork without even breaking stride. Consequently those 7 trucks could be completed in a day!!

I know sometimes the whole concept of the “traditional” has a certain nostalgic charm but ultimately what matters is producing quality work professionally using all the available means at your disposal. If that involves a uber-modern approach that amply answers the questions posed by any particular job then why not use it?

Of course thats just my thoughts… lol!

Thanks for the compliments guys, gee i wish i could digitally print all 7 of em in a day, but i don’t think my cadets up to it even at max res of 1750 dpi, then theirs the solvent ink, how much would that use & the speed of it at this res.. better get my sleeping bag out. I agree from a few feet away it would probley work, but you just gotta love paint, people said to me when i got my 1st plotter 3 year ago, thats it Pete mate bet you wont be paintin any more,.. well Ive just got my 3rd plotter & solvent printer & I’m still paintin!!! Cheers All.

Bloody nice work mate and to some extent I agree about the paint looking better than a digi print IF the digi print is of real wood I’d agree but if you did the same techniques in photoshop as you used to paint it ie the airbrush then i’d say they would be on a par as you would need similar skills to produce the 2 but nots let get into the same stupid paint V vynull arguments that they have on Lettterheads that go round ad infinitum 🙁 computers, digi printers, brushes, spanners, nails, hammers are all TOOLS to produce a finished product and as such not one is superior than the other and anyone that argues against that is just a biased fool.

Cheers Steve, i agree with you 100%, yep all tools of the trade mate, to me vinyl cutters are extensions of the brush & printers extensions of the airbrush, i find working in photo shop a little slower than with paint, but then again I’m not on the computer day in day out. Cheers
