  • Overlaying with cutting master

    Hey guys

I currently use illustrator and cutting master and I cut my vinyls on a ce5000-120, when I do single colours it works perfectly but when I need to cut multiple colours they never lineup correctly.

If I have a logo with 2 colours, I separate the colours in illustrator and then send the first colour to illustrator, once that’s cut I then send the next colour.

When I’m lining up colours, I add a couple of little squares and duplicate them for each colour, so when I come to fit the graphics the squares should match up leaving me with perfectly aligned graphics, the only thing is the squares never match up

Has anyone had this issue and is this why people use dedicated sign software?

    Thanks

IMO. There is only one thing compatible with Cm and thats a dustbin

    Yes… It is annoying.

Are each layer the same material?
Are you cutting them both across or down the media?

I never got a registration line to be the same length, I now use a 20x5mm cross.

On a long length of text they didn’t line up perfectly, but with text I split it into smaller chunks and all worked well.

I create the registration marks in a different colour to the vinyl paths, then in cm select the registration colour and vinyl colour, rather than duplicating in illustrator.

Not much use on large logos I know.

    Thanks for the replies

Chris, thanks for the input and it’s not the first time i’ve heard that, but my thoughts were why pay for an additional software when all i needed was something to drive it?

Now I know, is there any decent software for a mac that will drive this bad boy other than cutting master?

David, both were the same material, both going down the media but i’ve had the same problem when going across, it get’s to the point were i don’t want to do overlay work because i know i’ll get this issue.

do you still use cutting master?

    Yes still using cutting master.

I have Flex Sign, but the production manager in that looks strangely familiar.

    What plotter are you running?

I have adjusted the distance adjust, which helped… but then caused more problems when working with smaller text.

I might just e-mail Graphtec and see what they say?

    Hi Dave

Using the CE5000-120, i’ll email graphtec now and let you know how I get on.

    Thanks

OK, got some input on this although i’ve still not contacted Graphtec.

I clicked on cutting master 2 on the mac and went to the top right hand corner and clicked preferences, there’s an option to change the units (currently inches) to mm, and also precision (currently 0.00) to 0.00000.

I’ve just done a text cut (although small 210mm wide) and it came out perfect.

Just need to try it out on a larger item now

Nice one Daniel, will try that too as it is a real pain.

    No worries

If the machine is anything like me, mm is so much easier to measure than inches, it give me more precision so I was hoping graphtec would think the same lol.

i quite agree with you so i use the windows printer driver that is on the same disk and drives the graphtec straight from corel, if you select the objects and its on the page it will cut it. simples

    So

I’ve tested it on a larger item, still not massive (4ft wide) and everything is still lining up correctly, in fact i think it’s got better in general as weeding seems easier to me as well.

Finally I seem to have something that just works the way it should

Did this fix your problem Daniel?

I found when doing a Vivaro van, with layered vinyl they didn’t line up, probably about 10mm difference.

I’m hoping you’ve found the cure.

I’ve done a few since changing and it seems to have sorted it, got another issue now though, when the join meets after going round the letter or object, I’ve got a mm or 2 difference causing issues when weeding, but lining up is now spot on, let me know how you get on

That’s the trouble I had after doing the distance adjust.

It seems to be either one or the other 😕
