  • Outsourcing Business card & Flyers etc. (UK)

Posted by James Boden on September 2, 2019 at 9:04 am

For the past year or two I’ve been using Online printers (based in Germany) and previously Exaprint (France) who went under not long ago.

I’ve always been happy with these two companies, however my last two orders with online printers took way too long to be turned around. Also my worry is with this brexit deadline looming my orders could face even more delays.

Just wondered if there were any UK based companies with good pricing for Business cards, flyers etc?

tradeprint.co.uk *owned by the same people who own vistaprint and numerous other ‘big’ printers
    route1print.co.uk

We also use some local suppliers for various other bits and bobs as they’re cheaper and the service much better.

I’ve been struggling a bit with tradeprint of late, poor edges on trimmed card – as if a dull blade, have had to have several runs of cards reprinted due to such bad spot UV alignment, have to keep checking cards contents for random ‘other’ cards or sacrificial card..

last couple of jobs have been almost embarrassing!

Tradeprint used to be based in Dundee, and most of their work went through their presses.

Since they got bought out, I suspect it gets sent to various other companies as well as Dundee, some part of their parent group, others not.

For run of the mill stuff they’re OK, their prices are keen (on some things).

The trouble now is, they’ve driven the prices down so low, made ‘print’ a commodity, you’re limited with where you can go, without paying through the nose… they’re trying to do the same with our industry, selling printed boards, roller banners, vinyl etc

We are the same. Apart from some menus that where folded the wrong way once. I dunno who boxed that up and thought, yea this is normal. Customers going to be happy.

Quickly sorted though to be fair. We order multiple litho’s from them a week. Always arrives in time and not noticed any cut or alignment issues. But will keep an eye.

Keeping my fingers crossed now, I’ve got spot UV cards arriving Wednesday with no time for error!

I like to use a company called solopress, and most items tend to have free next day UK delivery (depending on quantity)

Only ever had one problem on a print error and they rectified it straight away 🙂

Used tradeprint many times but my last order was reprinted 3 times because they couldn’t get the spot UV correct – they were doing the whole of the front of the card rather than spot. They agreed in the end that they probably wouldn’t get it right if they tried again so sent me a refund lucky it was our own cards, went on for 6 weeks

I’m not sure how they do their spot I, whether it’s done through the press again, or done digitally with the matrix type system.

I suspect that’s where the issue is, as they laminate then UV, so getting run through a press again, or printed on top of the laminate digitally then run through a laminator again.

Route 1 do.apot UV although I haven’t had any from them that I can recall.
