  • Outlook express failure

Posted by Dave Bruce on August 28, 2006 at 8:27 pm

I turned off my computer on friday (for the first time in quite a few months) and when turned back on I can’t get back in to outlook express! (hot) I klick on icon, it opens (slowly) goes straight to checking mail(in bottom corner) and stays there for ever. If I click anything, like inbox, it just freezes(not responding). Virus checked, found two Phish’s quarantined them restarted, no difference. Restarted back to last thursday, no change.

    HELP please.

    Dave
    Control panel
    add remove progs
    click on express
    remone or change
    or
    windows components
it will ask uninstall or repair

I think, I use outlook from office, but think it is the same.

not sure you can do it with outlook express as its a windows program
you could try removing it and reinstalling it but not sure if that will work

Peter I don’t think you can do that with express, I think it is part of Explorer, and yep I think I would have to reinstall explorer.

Dave if you go to add and remove progs – windows components – un-tick outlook express – then when its done go back and re-tick box to reinstall it

Express is not part of explorer, it is a windows component. are you on xp dave?
I would still uninstall and re install if all else fails. the data should not be deleted and express normally asks if you want to import any data found?

Had the same problem a while back mate, it was "i am sure" BT then back then… the connection timed out. tried for days then hay presto it worked. it stopped working after i had some upgrade to my bt-yahoo account. 😕

best thing to do is go to outlook express backup software site. you get free trial period but at about £20 its best to buy it. it backs everything up, old emails, address book etc all in a few seconds. then do what you have to do with outlook to get working… when done, use the backup software to put back in place. well worth having! Ive had it a while now and would be lost without.

Had this before was due to the number of items in all the folders.

Back up the mail folders to a new name and location.
Then delete the old folders. If I recall outlook will create new folders.

I found info when I googled, I had the prob when I was still running 98 on a pc.

    Tim.

That didn’t work either Nik, but after a few hours on Microsofts site I downloaded a patch to xp to rectify an Outlook Express problem and it seems to be working now, few what a waste of time.

thanks for all the suggestions guys.

Have you tried disabling e-mail virus scan checker?

Norton can cause all sorts of problems with script blocking and firewalls.

    Try disabling temporarily.
