  • Out of warranty printer insurance

Posted by Unknown Member on February 5, 2016 at 1:26 pm

    Hi Guys,

I’m looking to find companies who offer printer insurance.

A couple of our machines will soon be out of warranty and to be fair we renewed these with the manufactures and one cost us £11K and we didn’t use it at all.

Good testament to the machine but as we get even more busier just want to ensure all is covered.

By the way before anyone recommends APS I ain’t interested used these guys for a policy a while back and when it came to claiming they were not interested one bit….

    What machines are they?

Are you looking for insurance, or maintenance contract?

Break down insurance the kind of thing where you pay for the repair and claim on policy later.

Why not just get an all inclusive maintenance contract? The chap that had my printer before me (the original owner) just had this on it and never bothered with anything else. If a head / damper went, quick phone call to them and within a day or so they were up and running. If the next week another head went and needed replacement, exactly the same and no extra cost. It also included a couple of service visits a year.

Ah, I get the dilemma. Have you tried a different service company? I’m guessing at 11k per year per machine they are not your boggo standard solvent/latex printers? I know the last owner of mine wasn’t paying anywhere near that for a full service contract (Quality Print Services I think)

Yep your right buddy the smaller machines are great at 2-3k but the bigger you go and the more advance these machines become the higher the costs!

How much would a typical part replacement/repair cost? I’d be tempted to just whack 4k a month into a side account for service costs and bet on the thing not breaking down until you’ve got a healthy stash and maybe get your service company on retainer on a labour inclusive arrangement but excluding parts?

either that you you just bite the bullet and fork out £44k per year on the service contract. That’s 1.5 employees per year!

    Hi James,

Did you ever find a suitable policy to cover your printers? If so, do you mind sharing who with?

Alternatively, if anyone else has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

I ended up sticking with the manufacturers extended warranty and boy am I glad I did! August ended up being a record month and we broke our quarter target in one month…as you can imagine the machines were working some serious overtime….to give you an example of how good the warranty is: HP flatbed went down at 4.20pm we had 3000 boards left to print a massive contract that needed to be fulfilled…I called supplier logged the fault by 4.40pm my fault is logged and engineer booked for falling day, all major parts needed for the fault flown out from Holland to be with me next day before 10am! Engineer arrives at 9am parts get here at 9.30am, repair is complete by 12.45 and we are printing again by 1.00pm!

Now that is what you call a break down cover, when you had the amount of money we had riding on this contract we needed to move heaven and earth to get it done
