  • Other People not Applying "your" Vinyl properly?

Got a phone call from one of me mates who let me do his brand new fridge van. It was a supply only job as fitting was part of the purchase deal.
It is a week late on the arranged delivery and he is quite rightly not happy about this but he had to go to their yard to settle some other things
The guy that applies the vinyl moaned to him that the vinyl is very thin and that it creases easily He said that some of the letters are obviously going to need replacing and he was moaning because I hadn’t cut the shadows in complete words like the letters. Now I am not a skinflint but I wasn’t buying 60 m of vinyl and throwing away 40 m of it sensless to me.

Anyway he hasn’t come to the complex peice yet (a multi layer compass design and a couple of flags Scottish of course and a Euro one.

Well I will know on Friday night how it ends up and I will take piccies if I remember my camera of any of the bad bits.

I feel like going down there and givin him a slap for makin a mess of my work.

I don’t know what vinyl he usually gets supplied from others but I find absolutey nothing wrong with ORACAL 751 for application far better than some others I have used.
    a hacked off Goop.

vinyl too thin etc, groans of someone not being able to fit good, in my view. 😉
its always the thing when handing over a job, will they do it right? and if not.. who pays for damage?

its the same if you fit folks work, thing is, you cant expect the supplier to pay for your mistake. (so not can he expect you)
when we fit on behalf of another company, we always stick a bit onto the work incase we damage it. if we cant replace ourself the jobs worthless as soon as a mistake has been made. 😕

i would replace what he has asked for, just to get the job paid for.
but tell him the vinyl you use oracal 751 & it is one of the best calander vinyls on the market with a 7 year+ life etc etc etc… then go onto asking him same questions about his vinyls.. he will probably say.. well its thick, green & sticky 😉

As far as I’m aware all he does is fit. This place is producing around 30 fridge vans a week and they have four places one near you one in Ireland and 2 down south bin told they are the biggest manufacturers in Europe alegedly I don’t know if this is true or not.

The owner of the truck doesn’t seem to phased by it not happy but not the screamin ab dabs neither he’s gonna have words wi the salesman apparently who unfortunatley is on holiday while his van is being done

    (chat.) Well find out tomorrow.

    Goop.

Goop …. we mainly use 751, personally in our opinion, think its a great vinyl to work with … he is obviously talking out of his …… ummmmm bottom perhaps?? :lol1:

Isnt there a saying of …… a bad workman always blames his tools or something similar????

We supply a couple of companies with vinyl graphics, 751 series and they never have any problems working with the vinyl.

Hope it gets sorted Goop!!!! …….. if not go and give him a: :wedgey:

    Carrie 😀

Something we frequently suffer from is fitters claiming that such and such a part was missing from a vehicle kit we supplied when we know damned well that the kit was complete and they messed it up in fitting.

The thing is that it is always the same fitters who have the problems. They think we’re daft and don’t know what’s going on. It has got to the point where I am seriously considering taking digital photos of every kit we send out so that we can prove our point.

i know the feeling john, a while back when we had about 17 staff, many were vinyl fitters…
andrew would constantly have arguements with them because his guys and him had checked stapled together and signed job sheets yet “our own” fitters came back saying it had stuff missing 😮

you cant win… dgital pictures sounds about the only thing to do.. 😕

It amazes me how many people make claims that their ability doesn’t meet up to. Just today a customer called me to make a window graphic that a local co. had buggered up. (Creases all over the place on 4″ high text – sheesh!) I guess there are still a lot of cowboys out there. If I was fitting someone else’s graphics and ruined a bit I’d expect to have to replace it, or at least discount the job for the cost of replacement. Of course I never make mistakes. 😉
