  • Optically clear window vinyl suitable for cutting

I just wondered what you guys are using as a go to for optically clear that can be cad cut/plotted.

I have used various in the past but they have not been any good for cutting to shape as the liners are thin and the vinyl is stiff unlike coloured vinyls. Specifically for print and cut shapes going on glass and to back acrylic stand off panels.

    Hi Adam

Spandex has a few different makes of optically clear laminates. I think it was image perfect I used in the past.

Thanks Karen, Just used the MDCRV from Metamark and it is really nice, very clear for windows. Three layer print, colour, white, colour πŸ‘

    That looks great Adam. πŸ‘

Does that have white ink in it too?

I have used optically clear a few times now. Spandex and William smith do some.

Hi Peter, sorry for the delay, yes it has white ink as a middle layer so CMYK/White/CMYK. Tales longer to print but worth it not to have washed out colours with a single layer.

That looks really nice Adam, well done mate!
What machine did you use to do this?

I was scrutinising your photo there “trying” to see where your vinyl edge was! πŸ€“
Is it where I have indicated?
Regardless of “if I have spotted it”. it looks good and I would be amazed if there was any vinyl on the market that was completely invisible.

I think it is great to see a topic posted asking for help sourcing a product.

These types of posts really help everyone.

    thanks for sharing mate! πŸ‘

      Hi Robert

Thanks, I used my Mimaki UCJV 160-300 with the white inkset, nice to be able to use it properly for a change. It really is tricky to see the edge of the vinyl, i’m guessing most people would’nt and its a hell of a lot easier than weeding out the shape 😬

And yes, thanks to Colin for recommending the vinyl, it worked a treat and is a good example of this forum being a great help for each of us as we all have our own unique experience 😎

I have recently used 3Mβ„’ Scotchcalβ„’ Clear View 8150 and achieved great results.
