• Opal telecom ?

Posted by Kevin Flowers on March 11, 2010 at 1:59 pm

    Hi
has anyone had dealings with Opal Telecom, they seem to be tied in with Carphone Warehouse, AOL etc. Looking to use them for business lines & broadband in the new unit, now i have finally moved in. Read a few reviews for the home system but according to their literature the business broadband system is independent servers etc. Broad band in the area is very week all rely on BT 6mb max. Opal are stating 1mb upload 9.8mb download plus fixed IP address, although over BT lines they recon their newer servers make the difference.

Any thoughts or comments much appreciated

    Hi Kev,
can you get bt fibre in your area? They are not pushing it just know, only the home variation but they will sell you a business package if you ask. I just upgraded and am getting 25meg down and 2 meg up, but they say this will increase (Up) over the next couple of weeks

    Hi Pete
unfortunately not, situated in a vary industrial area. Fiber optic runs at either end of the road but not down the road & they have no plans to run it because of the lack of offices on the 3 industrial estates in the road.

    Hi all,
I was with talk talk business which morphed into Carphone Whorehouse then into Opal. Had major problems with talktalk and carphone but these seem to have been ironed out with opal.

If you do need to get in contact with them its just about impossible, they don’t seem to want to answer their helpline or any emails but the service they offer is pretty cheap.

The only problem I had with opal was the ebills sometimes don’t turn up and you have to chase them – which is hard. 😀

Kev if you have it at the end of the road thats fine bt have the fibre cable in the bt boxes.they dont bring the fibre to individual premises, they use copper to the box and then its fibre, so if you are within a few hundred yards the copper connection is fine no loss of speed
its like a wired connection to the box then fibre

    give them a call

Opal have been around for many years, some better than others. They are basically a re-seller for BT. Have a look at Maple Telecom, formally Redstone, as they have quite an extensive network that is independent to BT

Unfortunately BT are saying that they can only supply what they are offering
