    🙁 it’s one of those days…
    raining outside, thunder inside 👿
I have a dibond 2mm panel 200x100cm that has be covered with an Oracal 751C/053 vinyl with some letters cut out. I don’t know what i’m doing wrong but it just doesn’t work 😥
When i apply the vinyl (with my 3M gold-tool) i keep getting wrinkles 😳
What am i doing wrong??? Or is it just me being clumsy 😳 🙁

what way are you angling your squeegee mate?
have you watched the video of me applying vinyl around 610 x 610 wide to aluminum? try using this method and you should be fine…
751 is “cast” now so make sure the panel or the room is not warm or its gonna stick very fast.

i prefer to wrap a bit of denim material tight around the edge of my gold squeegee. held in place with double sided tape. allows same pressure you get from nylon squeegees but less friction.

The humidity does have a big effect.
If you can, wait for a drier day.
We might get one come September.

If you think humidity is the problem, why not lay it wet?

You can also try leaving the letters in whilst laying the vinyl then weeding out the letters afterwards. I have found that this helps the vinyl from ‘twisting’ in between letters & reduces piping. Worth a go

I have not viewed the demo yet which Rob is mentioning (need to upgrade) but just recently I laid a vinyl print 4′ X 4′ on plywood and used application fluid and got no wrinkles or bubbles at all, when without the fluid I always had the same problem you are having, one wrinkle can ruin the whole sign, especially since it’s hard to confine the wrinkle, it usually runs all the way through the vinyl.

I would try wet applying it and try what mayger mentioned about weeding out the letters afterwards. I never got good results doing large flood-coating until I used fluid, maybe it’s just me. Good Luck!

As per Robs suggestion – reduce the friction.

If you have some sticky velcro strip (furry part) cover one of your edges of squeegee with this. Or use sleeves.

Let’s all go out and have a cold one.
I dunno about you, but I feel the need to get comfortably numb.
Gonna put up the “closed” sign and have a Mental Health Day.
(90º and 90% humidity here in PA)

lol, i can relate, last week i was knocking up the 01’s and ‘general lee’ text for the dukes of hazzard charger kits, i made up enough bits for 5 pairs of each, on the 01’s i leave a large box around then that i use as a reg mark, i wet align the reg’s at one end and then apply down, same with the genereal le text,

bugger me, major bad day, i considered only 2 pairs of 01’s to be worth keeping (each 01 layered. is 2m of material + tape) after having one with more bubbles than an aero candy bar, and more than i cared to bother trying with, two that somehow slipped and didnt then line up right, and three that ‘touched’ before they should have and stuck solid !

then i find that the mate who made the general lee text for me (re drew it from a pic of an original) misplaced the reg marks and i ended up with only two out of 10 that were right, only cos i did them by eye !

i’ve cut enough to finiish the sets now, but have decided to layer them when they’re sold rather than doing them all now, then at least if i mess them, i wont sem like messed so much inone go !

never had a day like that before, hope never do again !
