one for all you wide boys
Posted by Paul Rollason on September 21, 2004 at 4:58 pmHi all
A customer as asked how wide i can cut or can get cut.
I have a pnc500 so I can’t really tell him the widest we can go is 350mm. 🙄
Is it limited to the width of vinyl available or can you get extra wide vinyl.
any help would be great
cheers

rolls of vinyl vary in width mate.. i have a 48inch wide and 54 inch wide cutter.. i think summa or mimaki have just brought out a 65inch wide machine. doesnt stop there but thats about as wide as you will get for a vinyl cutter.
like outline says.. just do the job in tiles.

Hi rob
Thanks for the replies.
Obbviously if you can get cutters that wide it is possible to get the vinyl that wide, is this right?
I don’t think I will be able to tile the designs as the client does not want any joins or overlaps as these will stick out like a sore thumb in the instance.
Cheers for your help, I don’t think he will need anything larger than 54″

1220 wide coloured vinyl is not a problem but i have not seen any coloured 54 inch stuff got loads of white & clear

Cutting and weeding is not the only problem.
You’ve got to be able to weed, tape and apply it and anything larger than 1220 is going to be a bit of a handful.
I don’t like joins either, but sometimes it just has to be done.

Might have missed something here, we ust fitted a 5M by 2.5m banner (one piece) post a pic if you want, but there are commercial guys out there that can print much wider than that and as long as you want.
Wot size do yo want

Just noticed that you only need 54″ wide, how ong do you want it and I will quote as we can print that

I do a bit of both: I can cut up to about 47.7 inch but I don’t keep 48 inch application tape. Instead I use 24 inch tape and overlap slightly, much easier.
At my previous job we had a 1800mm wide plotter; don’t know why because the biggest master roll of vinyl I ever saw was only 1524mm (60 inch)
