A “MAGICAL” auction of Aberystwyth’s former street signs is thought to have raised up to £20,000 for Ceredigion Museum.

The auction was held at the museum’s home at The Coliseum, Terrace Road, on Monday night, where more than 150 bidders keen to bag a piece of history were out in force.
It was reported in the Cambrian News last month that the Friends of Ceredigion Museum group were to auction off the signs, which were replaced as part of the council’s urban regeneration project, as well as art and other items.
And it is estimated that the auction raised between £15,000 and £20,000, which will now go towards the museum.
President of the Friends, Mona Morris said:
"it was a magical experience as people crowded in to bid on a street sign close to their heart."
“I left about 10pm and it still hadn’t finished,” Mrs Morris told the Cambrian News. “It was so crowded, people were filing up into the galleries. It was excellent – it was so magical in a way.”

The highest bid of the night was by Charles Raw-Rees of Raw-Rees Estate Agents, who bid £500 for the Chalybeate Street sign.
